Uh... we've come a long ways from the days when an engine would automatically grenade at 100,000 kilometers...

Then save the money for routine maintenance and perhaps some mods and a Unichip installation?
Bro, pardon the ignorance. But what's a Unichip? Is that the mod sa ECU to make it more economical? If so, how much does it usually cost?

It's a piggyback engine computer that can retune your engine for more power and more economy. About 30k brand new, including installation and tuning... there are a few secondhand ones for sale at http://forum.fordclubph.com

Not really worth it for the economy... but for the power? Yesssss....

70,000 km is peachy if the maintenance is good. Many Pinoys grossly underestimate how reliable engines are nowadays.

I wouldn't take the odometer kilometreage against the CR-V because it tells only part of the car's story. I'd certainly prefer a well-maintained, well-run-in CR-V vs. a pristine Escape that's had skipped maintenance stops. Here's where a complete, detailed maintenance record comes in handy. Yes it's boring reading, and it's not as easy as a peek at the odometer, but it'll save used-car buyers headaches in the long run.

That said...it's a toss-up as far as I'm concerned. The Escape has slightly more punch, but the CR-V has a more usable interior. Neither is really a deal-breaker.

Maintenance at Honda stopped at 5Tkms. But according to the owner, she had it serviced periodically at outside shops. The Escape has complete service records with Ford since it only has a few miles on it.

To be honest though, all things being equal, I'd choose the CRV in a heartbeat. Although the difference in price is quite hard to ignore though and will probably be the deciding factor in case I do make up my mind.

That's bogus na. Baka di na properly maintained ang CRV. Yeah, all things being equal, I'll pick rin the CRV. However, you just can't ignore na you have no proof that the CRV was maintained per schedule. The Escape now looks pretty good IMO.

    Good luck.

Mechanically speaking, apart from the engine changes and variants (2.0L I4, 3.0L V6, 2.3L I4), the Escape has always been the same vehicle. All it's had are essentially facelifts.

That's good to know. This bodes well for an Escape purchase. What engine do you run in yours?

I'd steer clear of the 3.0L V6 as its reputation for gas guzzling is justified. My aunt drives one she got second-hand, and the thing swills unleaded faster than a drunkard at happy hour...and for all its thirst it's not all that powerful either.

Blame the 4-speed tranny for that... but yeah... only 200hp from 3 liters... not impressive.

Better in the Tribute... no AWD to suck the life from it... but still just quick rather than "OMFGFast!"

Ours is the 2.3L engine. I'm also surprised the Escape lasted this long. So far so good with Ford.

Ask the owner for receipts to back up her claim.

I'm no fan of Honda dealerships when it comes to servicing either; I usually have maintenance work done elsewhere after warranty period ends. But it's really important that the receipts be tracked and recorded, regardless of where it's been maintained.

    Just to update you guys.

Decided to get the 2009 Escape na lang. At the end of the day, the price difference was too substantial to ignore. Haven't done any Fuel mileage measurements yet, but so far, happy with the car.

Oh, by the way, mileage on the Escape was actually only 4t kms. and hindi pala 14tkms as I previously thought so it's basically like a brand new car
