June 15th, 2013 12:07 AM #212nd hand Focus TDCi ayaw nyo sir? Pwede siguro 2011-2012 units. Open naman pala kayo sa 2nd hand eh. If so there are many options available even among SUVs.

With that in mind, I think hindi ka magkakamali sa Lancer, Elantra or FD in terms of safety. Compared to bigger vehicles sold only in 3rd world countries and wasn't designed to meet international standards of safety, mas magaganda yung tatlong sedans dahil pumasa na iyan ng napakaraming crash tests.

June 15th, 2013 12:38 AM #23difficult to judge... like you said, these 3rd world vehicles haven't been crash-tested..
personally, if ever i'm (Heaven forbid!!) involved in a crash, i'd feel safer if i were driving a bigger vehicle.. wasn't there a study sometime in the past, that indicated that in a crash, people driving bigger vehicles tended to suffer less injury than those driving smaller vehicles...?

June 15th, 2013 12:49 AM #24True, bigger vehicles usually fair better in crashes (imagine a subcompact crashing into a truck) but a small car with a well designed safety system would fair better than a big car with a poorly designed system. (e.g. a small Volvo C30 vs a big, heavy PUV jeepney)
If you really want to know more about a car's safety record, I suggest looking at their safety features and browsing through the sites of various crash testing organizations. (IIHS, Euroncap, ANCAP- you'll see the ratings of a lot of familiar models sold in the country in the Australian NCAP and ASEAN NCAP)
Remember this: Mustang crashing into Adventure in Skyway - [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWa79lW1FcQ"]Mustang & Adventure Skyway Accident - YouTube[/ame]
The Adventure is a bigger vehicle than the Mustang, but the fatalities came from the Adventure.

June 15th, 2013 12:56 AM #26The Innova is actually a prudent choice. Its actually similar in length and width to a typical compact sedan. You get extended seating capacity, D4D engine gives decent performance and excellent gas mileage. You also get sturdy underpinnings and surprisingly high flood wading capability.

Just tell the missus this:
The Mirage has five star safety. Granted, our local Mirage doesn't have stability control, but it's still a five star car. The Innova has no crash-testing data... at all. It's a third-world vehicle, that, based on the Hilux crash test results, would be three stars at best.
Then she says... but the Innova is bigger!
Show her this:
Fifth Gear - Renault Modus v Volvo 940 Crash Test - YouTube
That Volvo is potentially a two or three star car. It's bigger, heavier and has more frontal crush space than the Renault. But you'd be deader in a head-on collision.
That's what crash safety means. No matter how big or how small the car, the stars mean the same thing. Many big pick-ups and AUVs are rated a lowly three stars or less on modern crash tests... and some, like the ancient Adventure and Crosswind, aren't rated at all.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

What about the Altis, hindi mo ba ito I-consider as one of your options?

Lots of blokes still stuck with the "bigger is always better (or in this case, safer)" mentality.
