guys, need help lang.... I am planning to buy a 2nd hand 1600cc or 2000cc car... daily drive sana sa office (16kms away from house) tapos sana fuel efficient, all power, manual tranny at feature packed, ok i-maintain at sulit ang bawat peso....

    Choices ko po......
Personally, Nissan fan ako, so pinaka gusto ko sana, 1996-1998 Nissan Sentra Series 3 Super Saloon... Manual Tranny... (all power, power retracting side mirrors, lamig ang aircon)
kaso, a lot of people are actually discouraging me na kumuha ng Nissan (hirap daw i-maintain, aircon lang daw ang maganda, etc)
They are telling me to buy a Civic (ok sana pero uber mahal), or a Corolla (medyo boring ang design pero dali i-maintain daw) instead..

Civics cost more than 200k (so out of budget na) and Corollas naman, lower models yung papasok sa budget ko...

    - A Nissan Sentra Super Saloon (1995 - 1998)
    - Toyota Corolla GLi (1993-1996)
    - Honda Esi (1993)
    - Toyota Corona EX/Exsior (1993-1995)
    - Mitsubishi Galant (1995-1998)
or finally, Honda Accord (1996 and below)

Help naman po! all your replies would be greatly appreciated... saka sana po, wag masyado biased... yung talagang great value-for-money, matibay at easy to maintain po... Great Day!

malayo talaga ang performance and comfort ng 2.0 liter cars kaso wid grit power comes grit risponsibility sabi nga ni manny paquiao, malakas ito sa gas.. so you're left with the civic (wala sa budget), corolla (boring/corny) and which leads you back to the sentra (na napupusuan mo talaga).. i guess that answers your question.

Get the newest (1997 and up) & best conditioned Sentra/323/Lancer that you can find for your money.

The Sentra is a good car... don't listen to fanboi rants that it's hard to maintain, parts are difficult to source, only the aircon is good, yada-yada. Just inspect any car that you're buying carefully since the condition of a car even of the same model varies wildly given the maintaince done to it.

Getting an older Corolla (95 under) or high-priced Civic (200K+) isn't really cost effective given that the resale value of both vehicles are unnaturally high.

Hi we have the same dilemma...im also looking for a car na range nun budget ko is 100-150k..Tapos all my superiors/officemates discourage me to buy a sentra...About the sentra na-kwento ko lng kc sa friend ng mom k na balak ko bumili ng 2nd hand car tapos inoffer nya yun 95sentra nya...To my surprise low mileage lng sya at wafu pa...Story kc dun sa car nun bago sya ng-abroad lng yun may-ari tapos natambak lng sa garahe...tapos nun 2005 binuhay lng sya...inoffer nya sa akin ng 80k (2gives pa)...
Test drive ni bro last Saturday (A1 condition) sa Baguio....
    Nun nakausap ko officemate ko sabi nila 80k sentra + 20k stresstabs + 50k biogesic = 150k

I would opt for the sentra pare. Okay bang for buck performance, and interms of parts marami naman, as compared to what they are saying na kesyo daw mahirap maghanap at mahal ang pyesas. Corolla and civic dami na sa kalye.

We had a Sentra, di naman kami nahirapan sa maintenance.

Anyway, for your budget, i'd get the newest Familia(as new as 99), Lancer(as new as 98), Sentra(as new as 98) you could find.
Civics may only give you a rusty 94 and if you're lucky a 95 model at most.

for the 2.0L rides, i'd consider 97 Altimas, medyo pasok din sa budget.

my other suggestion is a 98 Honda City LXi.

Fuel efficient, good performer, spacious but you have to let go of some creature comforts. It has good ride and handling and even better rear suspension than some compacts (errr Corolla and Sentra).

Honestly I'd go for the Nissan sentra series3, I own one, and it never gave a problem. I tried traveling 4 times in 2 weeks going to ilocos, and never gave me a headache, I'm only paying 2200 pesos for 1 way, and the ride is awesome. It's a good car to own.

My nissan S2 B13 1.4Li M/T 93model, gives me 8-9km/liter sa city and about 14km/li sa highway. Bilib ako sa makina nito, till now wala pang major trouble. But thats good enough for a 17 year old car.

For me, i'd choose nissan, pasok sa budget. Just choose a newer model as your budget can afford.

I personally owned a Sentra Series III EX Saloon before and dare I say mas durable pa sya kesa sa Corolla XE namen.

If you have the budget for a midsized sedan (assuming that you have the budget to maintain it as well with the higher FC more expensive parts and all), why not? Its a really rewarding experience. Even if its old, the feeling of driving a midsized sedan will always be different from driving even a brand new econobox, its a really rewarding experience. I doubt if the Galant is available for just 150-160k. The Accord is particularly good. Its very comfortable and powerful, but for your budget you'll only be able to get the pre-facelift non-VTEC EXi version. As for the Corona... its not really my thing and its not as powerful as the others although its reliable and probably cheap to maintain as well. You may also consider the Nissan Altima, its smaller than the others with a size somewhat between a compact and a midsize sedan but its got that prized SR20DE engine. Then there is the Mazda 626, it may not look good but the handling is great and the engines are powerful be it 2.0I4 or 2.0V6, the sound they make is very pleasing too. If you want a compact, the Corolla 1.6GLi is the way to go. It goes without saying that this is a reliable and economical car that offers good performance as well.
