i see more and more of these monsters roaming the streets and i was kind of curious. turns out it has the suspension and gearbox of the Merc E-class and the V8 hemi version can turn off 4 of the cylinders at a time (turning it from a 5.7L to a 2.85L engine) much like the 4G93 MIVEC mitsubishi engine.

the base price in the US goes from $24K for the 190hp V6, to $33K for the 300C 5.7L V8 with cylinder shutoff. but it seems only the 300c is being sold locally. so how much are they selling these things here? if it's less than 2M that would be one heck of a buy (compared to say the puny BMW 120i).

yikes! that's horrendous. laki naman ng patong nila! the top end one is $34K which is sub-2M.
but then again it's not a "masa" car.

you'll notice that the entry-level cars cost the same here and the US (e.g. mazda3 starts at $14k and goes to $20k for the 2.3L AWD hatch). but the higher-end cars ang laki ng gap.

sa ganung presyo, i can see people in the 2M executive car range still going for a Bimmer.

i think it works only if there is an engine problem and the car would switch to limp mode much like the 7-series bimmers...i am not actually sure ha...

It's true that it deactivates the 4cyl (not pag sira)... Pero sama padin daw fuel economy

at 2.5 M, that's already a bargain when you consider that it rivals cars like the BMW 5 Series and Merc E-Class which cost 4 M+. hehe.

i think i'd pick a 300C over those two just for the astounding road presence hehe

cylinder deactivation functions only when cruising...like say for example, you're cruising at 100kph...it will cut off half of the cylinders since kaya naman ng 4cyl mag cruise sa ganung speed.
but at higher speeds WIK, di rin to gumagana.

anyway, at 2.5M...no wonder andame na nya sa kalsada.

tama, it works at cruising speeds. much like the MIVEC nga and for newer honda odyssey.

parang bentley ang aftermarket grille, kaya yung mga wannabe gangster sa 'hood' thats their choice. Maganda nga naman, at mura pa.

    ganda.

Well, I think the 300C is actually priced decently especially with the options included. You also have to understand the higher importation costs here and the small size of our car market.

Its a very beautiful car but its not me so I guess I'd probably go for a smaller Bimmer with similar pricing though (I remember the 300C was compared with a 320 in a local mag)

ang mura naman ng car sa states, sa UK doble ang presyo nito.

mbt is right, 2.5M for an E-class equivalent (well, suspension and gearbox) where an E-class is 4M.. ok na nga yun. frightful gas guzzler nga lang siguro.. but probably no worse than an exped.

2.5M pala ang 320? the 120i comes in at a whopping 2M (bad deal IMO for something that looks like a mazda3).

If I had 3M to spare, I'd get the V8 in a heartbeat. Bentley grill na lang tsaka 22" rims!

drove the 5.7 v8 version. didn't like it. $8,000 pa yung discount na ino-offer nila in late 2005. but i am partial to sweet-handling cars over just raw power alone.

also, beyond the fact that they are roughly the same size, there is no way these cars compare to an e-class or 5-series. more like competition for the ford five hundred or acura TL

Is a goons option available at the dealership? Make's me wanna feel I'm the Godfather plying our roads. I want one in black. But I'm sure it isn't sporty to drive with that chunk of mass and American pillowy suspension and flimsy brakes.

Seriously, this is special in its class because it's cheap, but it will be nowhere near Benz S-Class, or an E-Class for that mater.
