hello tsikoteers, pls i need help on my next alternative ride..

i am currently looking for an alternative ride,
been reading the threads about the cute cars like alto, yaris, getz, picanto, jazz rides for a while now after joining in.
    yep newbie here

am also been wanting to own a 2 door sporty car for a longtime,
particularly the mazda miata which was introduced some jurassic years ago..

practically i guess,it would be better to get the brand new cuties..
my alternative ride means, an everyday transport for city driving and eventually handing it over to my son after he graduates in highschool 2years from now..

(first choice) i've seen the alto upclose, and am not that impress because its a bit tight for my size 5'8 (got use to riding bigger cars i supposed)

my cousin drives a picanto and had the opprotunity to ride with him,i can say its fast and reliable, and cutesy too..

a friend drives a getz, and i was able to rode at the back while she drove, it's spacious for a little car.i havent updated by asking her about the reliability and maintenace, better text her nga pala.

the jazz, well i havent check it since the price turns me off...but honda is a reliable carmaker no doubt.

next choice, and probably the car to buy is the toyota yaris.
am still not able to check one up close because am an impulsive buyer,
i might sign the papers and forget all the other cars that still lurks in my mind..heheh

avanza also tops my list..but having a cute car these days seem the "in" thing hahah..

budget is around 500t - 600t max (either brand new or 2nd hand)

oh well,i hope you guys can enlighten me with the choices at hand..if you have any ideas or car to share, please feel free to share it with us,thanks all!

The best thing I could advise is you test drive the options you have in mind. Also consider the suzuki swift and the "sleeper" which is the Ford Focus Diesel.

For that kind of budget, I would think that the cars I've mentioned are a little bit pricey but nevertheless, your son will be happy I'm sure.

yaris na lang, para medyo unique kasi kakaunti pa sa mga roads natin, dagdag ka lang 120k

I'd support the suggestion to consider the Focus TDCi, kaya lang it's way beyond the stated budget of the TS.

Mas logical yung suggestion ni basti08 regarding the Getz CRDi. Konti lang yung kailangang i-stretch sa budget.

wow i wasnt able to thank you guys, after more than two short years, ngayon ko lang uli na-open ang tsikot forum, nakalimutan ko password ko at hinde ko naasikaso ang pag-renew. pasensiya na sa late update.

anyways, i was able to decide after posting this thread last feb. 2008 and in about 3 months time around may 2008, we finally bought the toyota yaris in manual mode.

i tell you, up to now am still enjoying the ride. grabe ang sarap i-maneho sa metropolis manila. tipid pa sa gas-tos ;)

now that my son has finally graduated from high school. i am thinking of buying him another car instead of passing the yaris to him. ayaw ko na munag bitawan ang yaris, am having so much fun with this little groovy thing.

thanks again for the advice tsikoteers, hopefully when we decide for the next ride for my son, i'd be able to list down the choices.

actually meron na akong napupusuan, suzuki jimny...what say you?! ;p

    happy driving you all !

I say amen! Where is your son going to study? If its UST, all the more reason to get the Jimny! And since it's small, that would prevent his classmates from making him the "school bus". The dimensions, being tall height and short length should be perfect for a newbie driver as well. Though there are some other cars out there, if you're looking for 2nd hand like the Ford Escape or the late model Hyundai Tucson diesel.

Why not pass the older Yaris to your son and buy a new one for yourself?

Excellent choice, sayang lang kasi walang diesel variant available locally. Advantages of the Jimny are the compact size, high ground clearance and four-wheel drive, lalo na ngayong konting ulan lang baha na sa Metro Manila. I hate it when monstrous traffic jams are caused not by city floods, but by drivers who are too chickensh!t to venture their low-riders into the water. Sana nga ibalik na lang ng Suzuki yung mechanically-actuated 4WD mode.

Never mind the limited interior space, binata pa naman ang anak mo eh.

Ask your son personally if he likes to have the Jimny.

Yes, you may say that he shouldn't care because you're the one buying for him but remember ... it's still best if he's happy. The smile, the thank you's and the confidence whenever he drives this particular vehicle everytime.

Some students may like " off road " so they opt for the Jimny. While some, like me prefer modded sedans. :hysterical:

The Jimny is cool alright, but it won't be cool enough for long especially if it's kept stock and parked beside his friends' modded vehicles.

    Kidding aside,

Let him choose. His opinion matters the most. You enjoyed your yaris and you're continuing loving it. Let him enjoy his.

Let him follow his heart so in the end you wouldn't be getting the reactions like ... " dad ! my friends' cars are super awesome. they're modded and they're enjoying it a lot. why do you have to buy me this jimny ? why ? "

However, if he likes the Jimny too ... get it.

Jazz is your best bet... cutest, best ride, highest re-sale value, porma.

The upcoming FORD FIESTA is also nice though (if you can still wait for it).

I'd go for the Yaris if money is no object, Getz if you're on a budget.

IMO,- Jazz is the coolest ride,- iDSI "lean-burn" engine (8 sparks) or vtec, electrical power steering, and CVT....
A very close second is the Suzuki Swift.... a real headturner....
Yaris is a distant third for me.... still reminds me of their Echo...
Followed by Getz, Alto and Picanto....

Choosy ka ba tulad ko...anong say mo?!
