    basic requirements:
    - sits upright (best position for my dad's back and knee)
    - a/t
    - economical fuel consumption (don't we all want this?)
    - prefer new but preowned no more than 3 yrs old is ok
    - budget under: 1M sana

    nice to have:
    - dual airbags, abs, etc
    - relatively high ground clearance (he drives through flood prone areas)

    we've shortlisted the ff:

    1. ford focus - practical. good sitting position for my dad. not sure about consumption of 1.8l engines. 1.6l should be a better bet but basic trimmings only. not good for flooded areas.

    2. hyundai tucson 4x2 crdi - manufacturer claims 12km/l. meets most of the above requirements except budget. he ain't sold on korean cars yet.

    3. toyota rav4 1.8 4x2 - preowned only. we were told that the fuel consumption is ok. looks a little young for a 70 year old don't you think?

    4. suzuki jimny - way too young... i don't know why he likes it. i'm pretty sure my mom will refuse to get in it. ...but it meets all his requirements daw.

    anything else we should consider?

The Jimny would be on top of my list... though ride comfort is not its strength though.

if it ain't Tucson, its got to be the Rav4. however, you might want to consider AUV's?

by the way, he usually drives himself to work so compact size would be better for him.
