the lower resale value is because of the perception is that sentras are inferior to the others. but many believe it's at par with the rest of the competition.
it all started in 1989, when nissan first entered the local market. the competition reportedly tried to destroy its reputation via "we bulong" movement. some say the dis-reputation was valid, because the product stunk. others say otherwise.
at any rate, some wise buyers take advantage of the situation by buying used sentras and end up enjoying everything that the competition can offer, at lower cost..
Wag mo na isipin yang exclusivity na yan. Wala nang masososyalan sa 15 year old compact car.
Ano naman kung ginawang taxi yung AE101, most of them have been phased out or run down to a point beyond repair by taxi operators, so di na rin maraming AE101 na taxi makakasabay mo.
Masyado mataas resale value ng Civic to be a practical choice. Corolla or Sentra talaga for me. Yung matitipid mo ibili mo nalang ng 4AGE or SR20DE
Or pwede ring dagdag panggasolina..
Magandang kotse yung AE101 Corolla. 1.6GLi is fast and economical enough. Resale value us rather high though, which means you will be getting a rather old unit.
I'd skip the Civic LXi. Non-VTEC means it is inferior to the Corolla in terms of performance and entry price is also higher due to this being a newer model.
The City is very fuel efficient and agile. A good car for a student, Its just that I find the 1st gen model to look rather plain. No, make that very plain.
Might I suggest you consider the Nissan Sentra as well. Lower resale value means you can get a much newer unit for your budget. 2000 model is within reach.
Another one you may be interested in is the Ford Lynx. Like the Sentra, circa 2000 models are within reach of your budget. Personally, I like this one the most.
Remember, look for manual models only!
One wildcard pick that you can consider is the Daihatsu Feroza. Bagay na bagay sa bahain place since you've mentioned na taga USTe ka.

Parts are not to find since kapareho siya ng Toyota, but fuel economy can be somewhat poor dahil carburetor siya.
