Your pick? They are almost same price.

The Vios 1.5 has a power advantage and slightly lighter but the 1.3 City is no slouch and has 5 speed AT.

Vios has more space at the back but the City has a larger trunk.

The Vios has more features (turn signal on side mirrors, power folding mirrors, foglamps etc) but the City is newer.

In this case, I think it would really depend on your usage.

For long-haul highway/out of town trips, maybe the extra engine displacement of the 1.5 will be very helpful. In city-only trips, maybe the 1.3L of the city would do.

I think it all boils down to a test drive at this point. Drive the car normally and see how these 2 cars fare subjectively.

I assume these are the new cars and not the previous models.

The new Honda City 1.3L A/T seems to be a little slower. It accelerates 0-60kph quick enough for a 1.3L but 60-100kph is too slow, requiring a calendar. Might be a gearing difference as compared to the previous model City. This single fact might make it frustrating to drive on the open roads.

The Vios is a much better drive. The 1.5L gives it good acceleration for either the highway or overtaking purposes. The bigger engine also gives it effortless driving, no need to push the engine as hard, just let the torque pull you forward with the lightest pressure on the accelerator pedal.

The newer model car sometimes isn't the better choice.

I was able to drive a 2009 City 1.3A (100ps) and in comparison sa Vios 1.3J (85ps) ko, parang di ganung ka obvious ang 15ps advantage nya. Pag akyatan parang magkasing lakas lang ang makina nila. Although the City feels like a bigger car and has a more supple compliant suspension.
I was just wondering, ganun ba talaga kaganda ang City 1.3S AT para halos magkasing presyo na sila ng Vios 1.5G AT? Ganung 1.3L lang sya (kahit pa high output) at lesser and features and amenities? O mahal lang talaga?

    Mahal lang talaga.

I'd get the Vios 1.5G over the 1.3 of Honda.

You won't feel it cause you need to rev it to feel it. Remember City 1.3 is 100ps * 6000RPM. Yep 6000RPM. Now we rarely go that high! The Vios has better low end torque. In simple words, maaga pa lang power is being delivered already unlike sa City you need to rev it to get the power out of it.

As for Honda's pricing, yes mataas pero marketing na nila yun. I think they want to project a more classy image than Toyota. You know their no-taxi policy and stuff like that. Kung baga sa relo kung Toyota siguro naka Citizen ka, pag Honda naka Tag Heuer ka, now kung naka BMW ka siguro yun ang Omega. Pero all these watches do the same work, kung baga brand and image na lang.

I would get the Vios 1.5G, basta kaya mong sikmuraan ang kanyang nakaksawa nang mukha!

if you need to be driving within the higher range of the revs, eh di magastos na din sa gas yun. i'd gladly keep my car which develops power within the usable rev range.

Exactly! Natalo ang Honda on how to deliver that power rather than power itself.

ouch! sir ganun ba talaga kayo kaumay sa vios? anyway..for the sake of honesty..i really hate how my car looks...my mazda 3 is my 1st love. diko lang kaya ang gasoline bills ko monthly..

pero my vios serve its purpose naman e, everyday driving is 12kms per liter..and the fact na para akong tataob pag mabilis ako e isa pa sa hindi ko gusto sa vios..

but i will definitely prefer this compare to over priced City..

Im loving my 1.3J. I think Ok naman ang handling. dunno what a 15" mags can do with the handling though.

It just would feel that way because of the suspension but it won't tumble even if you push it very hard into a corner. It will just go into terminal understeer once you have reach the limits of your tires. I tried with a Vios 1.5L, so I know.

15 inch wheels (from your original 13 or 14 inch wheels) will make the handling more sharp and probably give it better grip through the corners. Downside is the ride will become harsher but not intolerable. Just avoid going to 17s which totally ruined the good handling of the Vios.

Yes, but also expect the car to "yaw" just as hard .

I drove a friend's City 1.3S one weekend from Manila-Subic and back for a visit to their shipyard. It was quite okay. Even at 180kmh, it was very stable for such a little car. The acceleration was quite okay, akala ko nga 1.5L sya.

It's not as quick as the Civic FD though. I love trashing that car to the redline. 2nd gear at 7000rpm is super! The rev limiter sucks though. hehehe.

I did remember a few months back the Yaris has a P70K discount why not give it a look as well... Kasi yung makina nya pareho lang sa Vios 1.5G but its waaaay cheaper with the discount. Its functionality are similar din sa Vios 1.5G maliit nga lang yung trunk space, pero its cuter and without the nakakasawang face...
