While I put my faith in the durability and long-term use of Isuzu's old-school overhead valve 4JA1s and 4JB1s (have one close to 200,000 kms, and two others at around 170,000 kms plus), Isuzu's more modern engines use Denso technology for their common rail system. Even in Europe and Australia, Denso systems have a bad rep (guess who else uses Denso? D4D problems, anyone?), and the Bosch systems are considered king.
Old Isuzus and Nissan Patrols with the Denso high pressure systems have numerous problems (and these are not just limited to the 4JX1. There are rumors about the Alterra now). Some Toyota Denso owners are on their third fuel pump. Hyundai? They use Bosch. One member here is still on the original injectors. Even after being "Ondoy'd". At 300,000 kilometers. Now that is impressive. I've only ever heard of one or two injector failures stories for Hyundais, and they were old Starexes with over 150k kms.
Nowadays, it's no longer enough to cite the brand of the car... with boutique specialists like Bosch, Siemens and VM Motori (they make the Captiva diesel... pretty good diesel, that one) taking more and more responsibility for engine technology, you often have to ask what particular subcontractor/supplier built the engine and engine hardware.
