true, contrary to what most people believe about Hyundai dahil na din siguro sa incompetence ng HARI, matipid ang maintenance ng Santa Fe. between my old CRV Gen 1 and my 2nd Santa Fe, I was surprised I spent less than 20K sa SF vs sa old CRV sa mga suspension parts like ball joints, stab links, brake pads, etc . and to think Japan 555 pa ginamit ko sa CRV mahal pa din ng Honda.

Just two years later in 1936, the company manufactured Japan's first air-cooled diesel engine, which marked a breakthrough in the history of diesel engine development."

ISUZU has been developing Diesel engines for more than 80 years now and I would say, their engines are better than any other diesel engine in the market.

We did. Sold it last 2011 with 73k on the clock. By then turbo and injectors have already been replaced. Since then my father has become very wary of Isuzu cars.

Currently drive a 2007 Santa Fe 4x2 CRDi with 85tkms on it. Bought used early last year with 74k on the clock, main reason why we actually bought it was because it was the cheapest in the market. [emoji23] Central Diesel gave the fuel system a clean bill of health, which automatically makes it better than the Trooper in my books. So far I've had to replace the VGT actuator and glow plugs, but nothing else on the engine. FC is disappointing at around 6km/L (QC-Val-QC via Edsa), which is actually already better than the 5-5.5 for my previous daily commute of QC-Manila-QC. Central has no idea why its like this since according to them, nothing is wrong with it! I've had it chipped to 145whp and 262lbft. No significant impact on gas mileage though.

it is worth to note that in itself, all, new diesel engines are basically the same. Electronic Fuel Injections Systems have several different approaches from vendor to vendor. For example, compare Denso, Bosch, Siemens and ACdelco - Mitsu, Hyundi/Kia, Ford Ranger and Chev Trailblazer respectively. Each employs their propreitary pre, main, and post fuel injection schemes that will have impact on acceleration, power/torque, noise/vibration, emission levels, economy, performance etc. add to that the number of turbos and its sizes. The CRDI principle is the same. The implementation differs. rule of thumb, you want a diesel engine with good economy, don't expect performance and vice versa.

Noted. However, manufacturers have come up with their version of the common rail system & improvements in their newest models. Mitsubishi has Mivec in their Montero, Mazda has Sky Active D, Honda has Earth Dreams, Toyota came out with a new engine for their Fortuner. Each are common rail but have different proprietary tech.

Better diesel engine, ISUZU or HYUNDAI?
