Matibay naman talaga engines ng Isuzu. Trooper 4JX1 lang ang panira
Fuel economy, Isuzu. Pero yung Trooper ni s_quilicot nakaka 6-7 km/L lang daw. hehehe
Power? Di na kailangan itanong. Hyundai iniwan ko yung Montero Sport GLS SE sa SCTEX.

May 4th, 2010 02:36 AM #14Hmmn I am now getting confused.
Many of you guys make contrasts between CRDI engines vs ISUZU engines.
But isn't ISUZU Alterra's engine a CRDI?

Yes, the 4JJ1 found on alterra and the d-max are CRDI engines.
But Hyundai markets its diesel engines with the "CRDi" label, just like how toyota labels the D-4D, mitsu with the D-ID, and isuzu with i-Teq.
no biggie, it's just semantics.
regarding the topic... Isuzu's no longer the "authority on diesel engines".
yes, they have tried and tested designs, but in terms of sophistication? Napag iwanan na talaga sila.

For CRDI type engines, injector durability is everything.
Modern engines can last well over 300,000 kilometers, if need be. But modern high-pressure injectors often fail long before that.
While I put my faith in the durability and long-term use of Isuzu's old-school overhead valve 4JA1s and 4JB1s (have one close to 200,000 kms, and two others at around 170,000 kms plus), Isuzu's more modern engines use Denso technology for their common rail system. Even in Europe and Australia, Denso systems have a bad rep (guess who else uses Denso? D4D problems, anyone?), and the Bosch systems are considered king.
Old Isuzus and Nissan Patrols with the Denso high pressure systems have numerous problems (and these are not just limited to the 4JX1. There are rumors about the Alterra now). Some Toyota Denso owners are on their third fuel pump. Hyundai? They use Bosch. One member here is still on the original injectors. Even after being "Ondoy'd". At 300,000 kilometers. Now that is impressive. I've only ever heard of one or two injector failures stories for Hyundais, and they were old Starexes with over 150k kms.
Nowadays, it's no longer enough to cite the brand of the car... with boutique specialists like Bosch, Siemens and VM Motori (they make the Captiva diesel... pretty good diesel, that one) taking more and more responsibility for engine technology, you often have to ask what particular subcontractor/supplier built the engine and engine hardware.Last edited by niky; May 4th, 2010 at 11:19 AM.

This thread needs an update. Nag improve na ang Isuzu engines, dba? The FC of their pick up is really impressive, going 30 km/ lit. Talo pa compact car diesels.
sinabi moh! i hardly see my children now. when they were young, schedules were more predictable.
