We all have biases towards specific brands/models. I lean towards Sentras and Corollas. I believe you get more bang for your buck with all the ameneties that comes with an Exalta. I've had friends who has/have had Civics and are quite satisfied with their rides, except that the parts are more expensive and difficult to source that other brands. The glxi Lancer, I don't have a personal experience with the car, but I think I get more with corollas and sentras (perosnal bias).

Your future expenses with whatever 2ndhand car you end up with depends on how well its previous owner took care of it.

would you know what's the difference between the STA and SLA variant of the Exalta? It seems that the SLA is cheaper than the STA.

quick question to all of you, is it possible to tamper a digital odometer?
I'm afraid I might be able to buy a car with a tampered mileage.

Hi city, thanks for directing me to the thread. It helped a lot. yesterday I inspected a car The car is a 97 honda civic vti. on the ad it says, it's lady owned and seldom used, it's only 47Tkms!!!, but the carpet is "nakakalbo", so many scratches on the driver side, wasak na ang upholstery ng driver seat, btw it
was a leather seat but with seat cover kasi mainit daw baka masira, hehehe. I shook
the hand of the owner and said I will think about it, then the owner said "baka may gusto kang ibang brand may mga kotse pa kami sa garahe ng utol ko". Is this a new modus operandi of the used car dealers to just park the car in their own garage para mukhang kanila ang auto? I was dis-appointed but at the same time thankful at least I learned something.

it's nothing really.....i'm just new to these things just like you...thanks to the moderators of this forum and the tsikoteers..they're the expert.
I haven't met a used car dealer...maybe you're right...they don't want to be known as dealers kasi malalaman natin na may patong ang binebenta nila...hehehe...anyway, good luck on your search..take your time..it's worth it. Ako yan ang problema ko..medyo impulse buyer ako e..parang pag may nagustuhan ako..yun na...

    oh well.

    take it easy.

i just read manila bulletin this Sunday while waiting for Pacquiao's fight
    here's my suggestion:
some 99Sentras can be had for as low as 190k...97 models are even lower at 140-165k range and its already fullly equipped SS variants
some 97Corolla GLi still has strong resale at 230k...98 models 260-285k
97 Mitsu Lancer GLXIs are available for as low as 210k...with which lesser models EL and GL offers stronger resale as its price is almost the same with GLXi
97-99Mazda 323 Familias are cheap too. i saw a 97 Mazdaspeed at 165K some at 135-150k range....dont be lured. Mazdas are great cars too.
Honda Civic EG are falling in the 200Ks also but i think that's too old. 96-97EKs also falls on budget. you might want to consider City Type Z its in the 250+ bracket as well...lastly 99Lynxes are in the 230-250k range.

my vote: Sentra SS but that's just me....

    happy shopping dude.

The 1995 Vitara we got for Php 280k was the best bang for the buck used car I found. Though Vitaras of that vintage usually hover around Php 240k, this particular specimen was very well kept and the premium was well worth it.

    CBU from Japan
Dual range 4x4 with auto hubs
    Solid rear axle
    Coil springs all around
Seatbelts for all passengers (yung ibang older model sedans, harap lang meron) and is designed to accomodate child seats
All power (steering, windows, locks, mirrors)
    Economical 1.6 engine
    Easy to work on
    Lots of parts
    Lots of modifications available

Kung medyo mataas budget mo, you can get a newer/fresher unit pa.

This may be late, but let me share this. It's a bit similar. I was choosing between the 2000 Nissan Exalta STA (checked 5+ units already, sablay lahat) and 2000 Honda Civic LXi. Ended up buying a 2001 Mitsubishi Lancer GLS na cognac red din...

    anyway pahabol lang... Congratulations!

Nice car! I've always liked that model. Feels solid, good power. Watch your aircon, though, and have it checked out already.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

thanks! I'm planning to read the manual para malaman ko kung ano mga dapat ipacheck dun sa car para pagpunta ko sa casa minsanan na lang ang lakad. at least si misis happy na ngayon kasi before I got the car, naaawa ako sa kanya pag sumasakay kami ng tricycle. bihira kasi pumapasok na taxi sa amin, walang jeepney, so sakay muna ng tricycle to roxas blvd, then taxi to office tsk tsk tsk. we only live 6 kms away from our work and our average daily fare is Pesos 180.00 at least ngayon less than half na lang gastos sa gas and more comfortable. sabi ko nga sa misis ko kanina first time kong pumasok ng umuulan na di nabasa yung shoes ko at di nag overheat ulo nya hehe (sungit pa naman ng mga buntis)
