This matchup just in with Kia's latest announcement for a sub-million (disc 50k) compact SUV.

    What would you choose?

Bias ako in favor of diesel crdi coz I love the diesel engine torque. Kung power /torque pag usapan sa Kia Soul ako, if going for features & bling bling segurado eco-sport na. Tingnan ko nga maga ito one of this days sa show rooms.

The Soul doesn't have enough ground clearance to be considered a compact SUV, it barely has 150 mm ground clearance. It's also larger than the Ecosport and is not built to wade into 550 mm depth of water / flood.

Right now the Soul CRDi is being offered at 970k for the first 50 buyers. Titanium ecosport is at 975k.

Just my opinion, but I think the soul is just for bling and porma. Versatility comes with the Ecosport no doubt. But let's wait for the FC figures of the ecosport. Power and responsiveness, no doubt the CRDi would win this.

I was in Ford Balintawak last Thursday inquiring about the Ranger. While waiting for the SA, I was able to seat in an Ecosport Titanium. I'm 6'2 and it has lots of legroom for a tall driver. Overall i was pretty impressed with it

Same reason why people buy pickups and SUVs.

Good to have lang. Nangyari samin dati, bumaha parking. Iba samin may ongoing o.r and wala bintana ang operating room. Yung pick up nung isa, ok lang, di man ata naabot stepboard. Iwas hassle kumbaga.

    For the engine, Soul.

    For the ground clearance, Ecosport.

    What are your considerations?

The new Soul is only slightly bigger than the old one. They actually lowered the ride height of the new gen Soul. Its ground clearance was reduced from 6.5 inches (165mm) to 5.9 inches (150mm), that's 50mm less than the EcoSport.

The Soul is really more of a trendy hatch, than a crossover. It lacks the water wading capability and ground clearance of the EcoSport.

I agree. A slab sided hatch at that.

panalo yung soul sa porma at engine lakas ng hatak nyan for sure kasi magaan

if you want a high ground clearance then buy a pickup or SUV.. pero if ever i have a pickup, i will never take the risk of crossing flood waters.. kung malakas na ulan eh di ilipat sa high ground..

Sometimes one does not have a choice with floods.

If we go by your logic, if you're after looks and engine power then buy a sports car instead of a Kia Soul.

I visited both cars in their showrooms. I felt that both of their looks stand out from traditional vehicles in their own way. Although viewed from the rear, the Ecosport reminds me of the old small CRV. The Ecosport has more perks but the Soul has the diesel engine. The Soul has the 1.6 U series diesel engine. Similar to the Tucson's 2.0 U series diesel engine which I find fuel efficient. Hopefully it is. I'll wait for the local data on fuel efficiency. Contrary to the internet, the local Soul has a spare tire but less perks like navigation screen.

Kaso patipiran ngayon ang laban hehe. I can later upgrade to some perks kung may pera.

About the ecosport, there are known issues about Ford's new transmission. I suggest you avoid the automatic versions and stick to manuals.

    True.

I don't know why so many are putting too much attention on "water-wading" when it should be the overall package being considered. If you want good wading capabilities, get a Jimny.

FC, suspension, handling, maintenance issues, aftersales service, etc, should be the points to consider.

The Soul diesel is a 1.6L Ull engine, exactly that in the Hyundai Accent. The Caren's has the 1.7L Ull. FC may differ a bit in the Soul owing to it being slightly bigger & difference in form (aerodynamics) but bet you it will still be very efficient.
