"Brand New" and "Serious Off-roading" are terms you shouldn't put together... especially not if you're talking about 3 million peso vehicles.
The new Pajero is a unibody and isn't quite as suited for rugged off-road use as the old one. The Patrol (current, not the 2011 one that's coming soon) is probably the best full-sized off-roader amongst your choices, with twin live axles and a strong engine, but it's expensive.
If you're going secondhand, an old Everest 4x4 will do. The older, the better... the original Everest didn't have the complicated TDCi system, though it's about as sluggish as the Pajero FM. An early Everest 4x4 TDCi will do, also. Later ones have anti-roll bars that limit axle articulation off-road... though you could always disconnect these if you're going to go trailing.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Well regarding not buying the Fortuner simply because of that one accident is not conclusive. Given the Montero Sport's same profile with the Fortuner (high ride, low wheelbase, thin body) it could also happen to the Montero Sport in similar circumstances...

ouch din... even if it's too old and too common that doesn't mean hindi na sya advisable bilhin...
i really like the Fortuner 4x4 because of its being full-time 4wd that returns fuel consumption equal to those of its competitors in 4x2 mode. pero i will be suggesting the Montero Sport 4x2 kay mama as her personal car... since nagiging common na rin ang Montero Sport, does that mean hindi na rin ba sya ok bilhin..?

May 19th, 2010 11:15 AM #20how about those issues of recall on toyota units? do we have the same problems with toyota units here?
I mean in this country we have crappy consumer protection laws so I really doubt that design flaws would result to recalls......
right now i'm inclined to get a nissan patrol.... it seems it would suit my needs.... But I do like the mid size SUVs for parking convenience especially when going to malls....
