Toyota is riding on its name to sell. Even if they put some old tech into a new body, they have a decent chance of overwhelming the market. Worse, Toyota prices have gone up and still counting they will corner a big portion of the market. You may call it confidence or downright arrogance. In the highly-contested space of midsize cars in the US, the Camry outsells the rest of the competition despite being the most boring and being last on comparison tests. Why bother with all new features and technology when from a corporate standpoint, it's the overall profits that matter.

    toyota did its homework.
    1. good build quality.
    2. encourage third party parts manufacture.
    3. good service network (at least, in theory).

so if the target customer is the not-so-young, "who cares, if it's a bare bones model, or it's a parts re-run of the previous generation?"

    my opinion.

As with any business, it's all about carving out your space in the market. Others may see it as short-changing the consumers. However, as long as your business complies to standards and you satisfy your clients, you're good to go.

Toyota is playing safe and is not too keen in pushing the envelope of automotive technology. They may have exciting cars but they carry the Lexus brand (IS 350, RC F, GS F). Toyota is all about the Camry, Altis, Prius, and Hilux. Toyota will never find itself in the same scenario as what VW did with its secret software.

i hve the 2012 sorento lx 4x2 and 2016 everest 4x4 titanium premium. nung naka 265/50r20 tires pa yung everest matagtag siya pero after napalitan ng 275/55r20 ok na. sorento's ride is better syempre kasi monocoque chasis e inherently will have a better ride than a body on frame like the everest. much better ang nvh ng everest (for this model anyway) than the sorento. steering is much lighter kasi eps na, my sorento still has hydraulic power assist steering. the new model sorentos (2013 and up) already have eps. mas maganda power to weight ratio ng sorento syempre kasi magaan lang siya, mabigat ang everest.

i was at the box a while ago and there was a fortuner G model on display. parang ang sikip pa din talaga compared to the everest, sorento and santa fe. also the 3rd row leg room is cramped.

deal breaker for me, the V model 4x2 only has the 145 hp(?) 2.4L engine and price is 1.779M. bare na bare. and the center panel looks weird. if i will pay that money i might as well get another ford everest but in 4x2 2.2 titanium premium trim. more power, not bare. kaso lang nga i will end up with 2 of the same.

i'll just convince the wifey to keep the sorento another 2-3 years.

Ako fafa, kung magsisimula lang ulit ako and I have to buy my first cars

It'll be Juke + Ecosport. Personal preference ko coz I live light, i m city slicker and I spend most of time living in a condo anyway

But if Im for durability and longetivity and traveling to provnces, the 2 PPVs I will get

Are the Fortuner basic 4x2 and your TOTL Everest Premium.

Ok na eto tandem, isang pang-harabas at isang pang luxury drive,

I think the only reason why you're turned off with the current Forts is because your Sorento is much better option to keep, which I understand, coz I too have Korean crossover. Hard to let go...

But yun na nga, kung wala yan as given

Bare Fort + Totl Everest - the best duo to beat Philippjne settings

New player in the PPV battle coming, the 2017 Chevy TB. Facelifted with techs and improved interior. Need ba ng new thread? Also, interesting to pit "american" brand PPVs against each other, Chevy TB versus Ford Eve.

The new chevy 2017 looks more American now, it looks like current explorer. Pero kumusta ba yan car na yan, cheap to maintain ba?
