Exactly. I think they did this to avoid cannibalization of the Avanza.

You want a sub-1M 7-seater? Get an Avanza.
    You want a better 7-seater? Get a Rush 1.5G.

I actually think the 1.5E is only there to serve as a pricing anchor so that people will easily justify the 100k increase for the G.

"Oh look less than 100k lang dami nang dagdag features, may 2 extra seats pa."

The Xpander actually has better pricing since the Rush didn't match its mid-range offerings. But Toyota has far better brand equity and the TOTL isn't too far off the psychological 1M barrier.

I can't imagine how it is with the Avanza or similar especially if it's at full capacity. Paano pa kaya yung 1.5 na mas malaki pa sa sedan tapos for 7 people?

You really have to rev it to get it going when you have 7 on board. But even with a lowly APV and 8 people, it actually works quite well. Gearing is often optimized by having short first and second gears. Not as torquey as a diesel, but gets the job done.

These budget MPVs are actually pretty light, just the same weight as a sedan. The BRV S and Xpander GLS both just weigh 1,240 kg. That's 25kg lighter than an Altis 1.6G CVT.

In a way, parang triggered kasi ang toyota sa ginawang move ng honda with its lineup during the recent years. Diba last 2007, the time when the original avanza was released, the innova already exists as a fresh yet refined mpv.

What I'm sure though is that those mentioned mpvs didn't become prominent so much in the streets. Natira though ang apv. And then yan, nagsilabasan na mga current crop of mpvs ngayon, kahit may mga other alternatives like the small crossovers, minisuvs like the juke or ecosport.

Ngayon, diba naglabas ng mpv c honda which is the mobilio? To compete with the avanza and the likes. Naging successful naman siguro ito for them. Tapos naglabas pa sila ng br-v, which is slightly bigger but more attractive.

Now, toyota will release the rush kasi it might compete with the similar br-v or new similar sized mpvs/minisuvs as well. This thing also looks somewhat similar to the outgoing rav4 and fortuner, with some specs from the avanza that include some interior touches as well, being a daihatsu at all. In short, parang br-v lang din. They will release this because siguro dahil nga sa ginawa ng honda. Two similar small 7-seater vehicles at the same time.

Syempre, with the train law implemented, the prices of the totl of these models are almost on par with the price of an entry-level of the larger innova, which has grown wider already.

Kaya it's a matter of choice and decision na lang kung san ba talaga gagamitin ang vehicle.

The Rush/Terios has been a 7-seater since 2006. Way before the Mobilio.

Due to lack of competitors ba dahil mas solo pa ng avanza dati yung market?

Never came in LHD. Primary markets were Japan, Indonesia, and Malaysia. All RHD.

It didn't make economic sense to make a LHD model with low demand (since the market was still saturated with Adventures and Crosswinds at the time). The Avanza was sufficient.

Now with a bigger pie to capture and a growing market interest for gas-fed budget 7-seaters, bringing in the Rush could pay dividends for TMP.

Wow! That's really surprising. I never imagined those vehicles to be lighter than the Altis.

I guess I was just used to my first car (2.0 sedan) that's why the corollas feel slow and heavy

My general indicator for quality of a car is its width. Cheap cars are usually narrow cars.

Compare a CRV and BRV. Length and height are similar, but the BRV is narrower by 5 inches. Even the Xpander which is already the biggest in its class is actually 2" narrower than a Civic. Heck, the Rush is actually narrower than even the tiny Miata!

Deceiving talaga height and length but yung width, bihira nga tignan kaya dun sila nakakatipid. Somehow marketing strategy na rin. hehe
