Civic SiR din siguro ako. Actually, namali lang ng timing dahil kakabili ko pa lang 2 years before yata nung lumabas yung SiR.![]()

My greatest frustration in 1990 was I couldn't afford (by 30,000) the Toyota Corolla GL '16 valves' so I settled for the Nissan Sentra SLX (1.4L).
I also dreamed of owning a 90's Corona EX and/or a 90's Galant VR4.
Then the '92 Pajero came out and that's what I really wanted, then the SiR... it went on, and on...

starex na mga unang labas..nung una kc, sabi nila..disposable. at d magtatagal. eh ngayon, ang mahal na ng starex.
or maybe a crv....didn't use to be that expensive..tapos puro pa 4wd...
asa huli pagsisisi...
If I could turn back time, I would have gotten SIR if I had the money.
Bang for the buck car.
During the early 90s. I was saturated with unusual cars in our stable. Well, not much, but almost.
Although naging hit ang Ford sedans during the 80s. Hanggang 90s puro Ford sedans pa din ang oto namin. We had 2 Ford Cortinas, 1 Ford Escort, 2 Isuzu Gemini (one model was race set up by my father complete with racing clutch [to my father's stupidity at typical traffic here and at the same time, pride at the dragstrip], 'stick shift' sequential manual transmission and a 1.6L standard engine bored out to 2000cc etc), 1 Opel Rekord 2.0 and sometimes, my grandfather's RHD base 82 Toyota Crown.
I would have preferred kung more mainstream cars ang mga naging kotse namen.
early 90s, i really liked the Honda Civic 2 door Hatch, Nissan California 1.6SGX, B13 Sentra SS/SE, Mitsubishi Galant GTi, Cefiro GTS-R and Suzuki Vitara.
Mid 90s, Sentra Series III which we had (an EX Saloon model), RAV4 3 door, Honda City, Nissan Altima, Nissan Terrano TX4
Late 90s, Mazda Lantis, Ford Lynx Ghia, Civic SiR, Nissan Cefiro A31, Hyundai Starex
1996 - Lancer GSR astig ang porma
1998 - Civic SIR
1997 - Mazda Miata
Lancer EVO 5 and 6
Mazda RX 7 FD
Hmmm... lots of choices. Let's see:
Cheap Choices:
At the start of the 90's, I'd be riding in an AE90 Corolla. Nice little car. Either that or one of those EF Civic Hatches... maybe even an SiR version, if you could source one locally.
But around 1992, I'd have to go for the Sentra Super Saloon ("ECCS"). Great car. good torque, decent power, really sweet suspension. We had one before, and I don't see any reason not to get one again. It's still a timeless classic.
After that, I'd say a Honda Civic VTi would be a great car. Yeah... I know... SIR, SIR, SIR... but the VTi is still a sweet driving car. With the SiR... you kind of get the feeling that you have more engine than car...
Failing that, I'd go for the Mazdaspeed Familia. Yeah, the local one didn't have that much power, but it was a sweet car.
Not-so-cheap cars:
The A31 Nissan cefiro GTS-R was the ultimate daddy-mobile of its time. Classmate got one for his birthday (with his money that he'd saved since he was a kid) when we were in high-school.
In the late 90's, it would either be the Honda Accord VTi-L (with the manual transmission) or the Nissan Altima. Both really sporty cars, but I think the Honda has the edge here in terms of sophistication. I only like the Altima for its engine. I've had the 626, it's a great car, but it's lacking in "oomph" compared to these two.
Sports Cars:
Definitely the Mazda Miata. And they were cheap, too. No need to explain.
The Nissan 200SX was another great buy at the time... just sucks that it was AT only.
I'm also a sucker for the Porsche 944 Turbo... yeah... it was last sold right at the start of the 90's... but that's a real interesting car... and rare.
Off-roaders:
Definitely the Toyota Landcruiser VX-R and/or the Pajero. I'd like to have both, actually... please...![]()

Sentra B13 "ECCS"- as Sir Niky says a timeless classic, performance and quality is still the best of the local Sentras for me. In the states there are cult followers of the B13 as a matter of fact esp. the Se-R trim. Those well maintained actually looks good in our roads up to now!
240 SX / Silvia S14- 3 letters... J.D.M represent!!! A Time attack circuit and kingdrifter performance car!
Galant GTi- Still want to have the VR4 version of this baby!
Cefiro A31- A Silvia S13 in sheep's clothing.
Eclipse 2nd gen- One of the first local Jap sportscar that I love together w/ 240sx. Gwapo...
I can't believe I missed the Galant GTi... seriously good car. Decent power, good suspension... I have memories of sitting in the back seat of this one as my uncle blitzed down the highway at over 160 km/h. Still a head-turner, for me... it's the early 90's equivalent of the Ford Lynx RS (as evinced in that classic article on motioncars... )
That's one that helped convince me to get the Lynx RS.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
yeah the galant gti! i still admire this til now.
also the generation following the gti---the VR model to be exact.
actually, i wanted all the 2.0 cars at that time! except for the altima (though i admired the engine)
