Is the Honda Jazz 1.5V that now comes in Helios Yellow worth the P842,000 price tag?

The Jazz is more comfortable than the base Civic.
The seats are just as supportive, but not rock-hard, like the Civic's. The ride is much softer. Interior space on the Civic is still better, but not by much, and you can now actually seat three people in the Jazz's rear bench without them feeling cramped. And the bigger trunk means that the rear cargo hatch is now further away from the rear passengers' heads. Cargo capacity, obviously, is huge.
The Civic has better steering and a more powerful engine, but the base model doesn't have the full complement of safety equipment, and it doesn't have the Jazz's paddle-shifters.
The Jazz has better front footwells than the Corolla, and feels just about as spacious, despite being lighter. As it's lighter, it's also better in terms of fuel economy. And the Jazz has a 5-speed automatic... the Corolla has the same 4-speed that's been in that car for the past ten years... so, even with the ridiculously long overdrive and with less torque, the 5AT Jazz accelerates faster than the Corolla 4AT. The Jazz's steering and driving view are much better than the Corolla's. Plastics are similar. Both have cheap plastics, but I like the Jazz's color scheme better... black dashboards go a long way to preventing glare reflecting off the windshield.
The Corolla's edge over the Jazz is in the ride. While the Jazz is nice and soft, the Corolla feels like it has extra suspension travel over the Jazz. But that's it. The trade-off is that the Corolla has much more understeer and much less composure than the Jazz in corners.
So... yes... the Jazz can be considered an alternative to a Civic or Corolla... and it's more economical to run, to maintain (less fluids, smaller engine, longer service intervals than most compacts, smaller wheels and tires) and to register. It's not quite as spunky as the old one, but it's grown up into a viable Civic replacement.
However much I'd like a new Focus TDCi or a Mazda2 (both of which are quite exciting to drive in comparison), the Jazz is high up on my list... and it's #1 on my wife's list. The Jazz is the first test unit she's actually used the "buy" word for.Last edited by niky; January 29th, 2010 at 06:10 PM.

I know the Jazz is a good car but I am not convinced that at P842,000 its a good buy! My instincts tell me with that money I just get a compact car or even a Mitsu Strada... Not as fancy, but surely practical, ride height and has the cargo capability... Hell, I might even be tempted get an Avanza 1.5G instead?

Honda is not even that generous in giving discounts yet they are still putting their unit prices higher than it should be.
Better to buy the similar-era clone starex 4x4 (not sure lang if local or imported but original lhd...
