Will the difference really be that big? In the XTrail thread, some guys are saying around 6km/l. For Altis...I don't know, haha! I just know I was spending an average of P3,500 per month on gas, but I never bothered computing for the FC because I feel the amount is reasonable naman. For the XTrail, do I expect it to double or triple or quadruple given that it's a compact SUV?
Hmm...I guess if I know how many kms I drive per week it will be easy to compute, but since I don't know, I feel the question is a bit stupid, sorry
I just feel that with a price diff of just about 65k on the unit price, the latter feels like a very lucrative offer. But the upfront lower costs could be more than offset by much higher long-term maintenance costs, so I'm confused...

As per family feedback, its really an apples to orange comparison when it comes to FC when comparing the current altis and an old body xtrail. Altis crawling Edsa from 8 to 9 km/l while the Xtrail traversing Valenzuela-Ust is arround 6 - 8 km/l.

From this I can deduce the would-be jump in our gas expenses if ever we go for the XTrail. Thank you!

If the Altis does 9 km/L and the X-Trail does 6 km/L, you'll be spending 33% more on fuel.

If you travel 1500 km a month, that's roughly 3,000 pesos more. Not that much really, especially in exchange for more ground clearance and space. But the old X-Trail feels really old especially if you compare it to the new Altis. It's basically the same car since 2003.

As to the question why you would want a CVT - simply put, it's more efficient. The old Altis 2.0 came first with a 4AT then a CVT. We had the 4AT and it only did 6-7 km/L in city driving. The CVT reportedly does 7-8 in the same conditions. Thus, if the current Altis does 8-9 km/L, the new one could potentially do 9-10, perhaps even 11 if you take into consideration that its reportedly lighter.

for the gasoline point of view, kumbaga kahit 60-70k nalang at x-trail na mabibili mo kaysa sa altis. tuwing gagamitin mo naman yung x-trail mo mararamdaman mo na sana nag-altis ka nalang. again for fuel consumption point of view not the whole x-trail thing.

Agree on this...
Apir

Get the Altis, Hyundai sedans have horror stories regarding quality and warranty claims.

hyundai vs toyota - check the horror stories first of both car company hari/hahn vs tmpi

there you would know which is a better car rather than a die hard fanboy input.

yes xtrail is a cbu unit from japan.- downside is gas guzzler other than that its an okay suv. upside- it's a no nonsense capable suv that's why it's interior is a bit outdated, it can climb a steep hill like the other gas guzzler suzuki vitara(gas is a lot cheaper than diesel in other countries like japan, us and eu.)

don't buy a car just for the sake of the useless gadgets added in it or it's styling, make that a secondary choice.

buy the car based on the engine and it's performance(economy, ease of maintenance, and claim of warranties just in case)

At first, glance I would automatically choose the Xtrail for the value. But in the long run, it's still a SUV, so it would be more pricey to maintain, and the fuel economy may surprise you if you drive a sedan. You will be rewarded with more space and comfort though.

Having driven 3 generations of Toyota Altis, I would still wait for it anytime of day for a long term investment.

We should create a poll. But it looks like the Altis gets the majority vote

All car manufacturers have their own horror stories. I daresay Toyota and Honda probably has more of them versus Hyundai as they've been operating longer in the country and has sold more total units.

I do appreciate Toyota's durability. I mean, my mom drives one. That alone speaks testament to its worth seeing how she uses a previous 1.8G TOTL 2002 Altis like a moving storage bin (pots, bins, coffee, pillows, blankets, old underwear and socks.. name it) and maintenance? what maintenance? First oil change nun something like 30,000km eh.

However, their pricing has been banking too much on their "#1" status and that's something I do not appreciate. Alas I'll go for the Elantra 1.8L for their more competitive pricing. Truthfully, you won't need 2.0L in a compact car. 1.6L is livable but I do find 1.8L of displacement to be the sweet spot. There's a reason why most Honda FDs are of 1.8L variant -- it just works.

just to add up, my uncle is offering me (1) a vios which he won from RW and (2) his 2007 Xtrail. muntik na akong mapa xtrail.

naging decision maker ko lang is di ko naman need ng SUV as of this moment and consider saving first sa gasoline.

regarding sa gadget, swak na swak sa requirement ko ung 1.3G MT ng vios. di ko need ng power mirror, sound control sa manibela, paddle shifter and et.al. yes maporma siya at good to have, pero di mo naman magagamit tuwing drive mo sasakayn mo.

during my cavite to makati days, i am just inside the vehicle for like 1 hour or so, much more nandito na ako sa alabang. so yung ibang mga gadgets pain in the A-S-S lang lalo na pagnasira. di mo na nagamit, papagawa mo pa. hahahah.

go for the altis old or new, xtrail or city 1.5L di ka mapapahiya they are very reliable.

Right, sorry about that. It was in reference to my earlier post about scheduling a test drive for the Honda Civic 1.8S AT, and the eventual purchase.
