Don't expect too much in terms of performance with either cars, unless you opt for the 2.0L versions. The compact cars these days are getting bigger and heavier but engine output are still within 120hp. The 2.0L models offer better power-to-weight ratio at 150+hp for a small increase in weight (1300+ kg). The Civic FB 1.8S offers good power output for its weight (140hp * 6300 rpm, 177 Nm * 4300 rpm, 1228 kg).

If you want a more sporty ride for less price, go with the Fiesta Ecoboost (125hp * 6000 rpm, 170 Nm * 1400-4500 rpm, 1135 kg).

Between the 2, I would get the Corolla Altis 1.6V. Sa Mazda 3 lineup only the DOS LITROS is I think worth getting (pero mahal).Kung yung 1.5 lang, wag na lang bitin...

I have not driven both but based on the figures provided, as both cars are about the same in weight, the Altis offers higher output (122hp vs 112hp) but the Mazda3 gets it max torque earlier (3500 rpm vs 5200 rpm). However, in normal driving conditions, we barely hit the 5k rpm mark unless we floor that pedal in a highway. 3500 rpm can be easily reached with short spurts. All these boil down on how well you feel the car in a test drive. Go try them out first before deciding on buying one.

^^^ You're saying to get the Altis because it's a Toyota and then suggest a Ford?

^^^ Honda City is priced near these two already and the Civic is old compared to these two.

Sir, test drive both cars first before you decide

And might as well add the Honda City VX, the Nissan Sylphy and Ford EcoSport on your list

^^^ You may want to take note that Mazda has Yojin3 program, that's free maintenance for the first 3 years for your Mazda vehicle.

If you want to be distinct and have a eyeful car, get the Mazda 3.

Every time I get to see this car, napapalingon talaga ako sabay habol tingin.

Saw already a handful 2014 Altis taxi on the road recently.

Hi guys, I don't mean to highjack the thread, but what do you think would be a better choice under 1m?

    1.) Mazda 1.5 hatchback for 948k

    OR

    2.) lancer gta 2.0 for 990k

The lancer has quite a huge discount (almost 200k) while the Mazda is newer. I'm worried that the lancer will be replaced soon though? Any opinions? Both on the overall quality of the car and the resale value. Thanks!

is that almost 200K discount real?
or are they intentionally mis-quoting the discounted price of their 1.6 models... passing it off as their 2.0 model.. in a sleight-of-hand ad... ?
but personally, i like the lancer more... i find the hatch, too daddy-ish..

I'm not sure, this is the ad I saw. And it seems like it's for the gt-a model talaga.

so yeah, keeping that in mind, would the lancer be a better choice? I'm worried that they might replace it soon though..

well, i like the lancer over the mazda.. personal choice, really.
    the ad seems genuine..
but you should ask for the hidden costs... like comprehensive insurance.. freebies.. pms costs...
i have learned that when they give discounts, they sometimes merely shift the costs to somewhere else..
