if running costs (maintenance costs) is no object and you will be driving yourself. get the 523i over the 318i. midsize german saloon with rear wheel drive is a sweet ride.

if running cost conscious. get the camry.

but who would want to drive a japanese front wheel drive mid-size unless you have a driver.

Solo car car of family car? The E46 318i is a bit cramped compared to the Camry and 5-er. Given all vehicles are in good condition and you're not worried about maintainance cost then the 523i is my choice.
