I would like to buy my own car, i have already a family and a kid wherein it is so hassle to commute or to get cab pag umaalis kami...Most especially kawawa yun bata. I would like to acquire one but my budget is only from 150K-200K which i think that's under '98 and below model...I hope may pwedeng makatulong...I can pay DOWNPAYMENT and i can issue PDC. what are you thinking of doing? are you intending to use the 200k as DP to get a new car? or are you thinking of using it to get a second hand vehicle? both scenarios can be applied.

I'd suggest you try finding a car at the 140-160K range (i.e. Toyota Corolla, Mitsu Lancer, Nissan Sentra) and set aside another 30K to 50K for repairs and maintenance. There are a lot of threads here that can help guide you on your search. Most sellers of such car models will only take cash.

following vinj's advise which i think is a better option:

    a) at the 140-160k range, you can get a Mitsu Itlog, a Mazda Familia or a Corolla Big Body. yes, you have to set aside at most 50k for repairs and maintenance specially on the first year.

the second option is use your 200k as DP for a new car. wala kang maintenance cost dito except for the PMs (5k, 10k, 20k). which, can be costlier in the long run. coupled the fact that you have to pay a monthly amortization which amounts to around 12-13k/month depending on the vehicle that you can get.

so the first is the better option. you have a car, and wala kang utang. you just have to maintain it properly otherwise, baka itirik ka nyan while in the middle of a trip with your kid.

kung brand new car naman, bago ang car mo. hindi ka ititirik. yun nga lang, mas mahal sya. but you get peace of mind while on the road with your kid.

if i am you (in tagalog: kung ikaw eh ako...) i would choose the first option. the 50k set aside for maintenance is repairs would be enough to last me for a year. wala na akong utang after that.

i somehow sympathize with you. i know its hard to commute with a kid. and sometimes, riding a taxi is more expensive than if you use that taxi fare for gas.

kung matagal mo din naman gagamitin yung sasakyan.. and kaya naman magbayad nang monthly.. ehh i suggest getting a brand new car na.. less headache.. low maintenance.. and it's brand new!

with 200T cash for down.. you can shop around for 600T cars.. then around 10T+ for monthly for 5 years..

yup.... o kung medyo kulang budget mo for monthly, get a smaller car (Hyundai Getz?) or shop around for two year old units sa mga car dealers na hindi laspag (example: mga 2005-06 lancers). use the 200k for the DP, so mga 6k-8k na lang monthly mo.

Pero the catch as per 1d4lv with brand new cars is the PMS (just to give you a heads up kung magkano, it revolves around P5k to P10k depende sa kotse mo). I'd opt for the second hand option. Why?

i suggest toyota or mitsubishi for your budget. sa opinion ko lang po kasi madali hanap ng parts and mura pa

pag honda naman po expect the parts to much higher pero in a long run matibay and di masyado bumababa ang price

sa mazda naman po i would rather choose nissan hehehe

    if you buy:

2nd hand-set aside a minimum of 30K for repairs kasi lalabas at lalabas ang sakit ng binili mong auto in a few months and for maintenance na rin.also make sure na may trusted mechanic ka or if possible bumili ka ng auto from a friend na alam mong maalaga sa sasakyan hehehe

Brand New-peace of mind and maintenance na lang iisipin mo pero ang mabigat ung monthly lalo na pag installment.also take note that newer cars are mostly maintained from casa dahil computerized na and they replace it by assembly just like honda... pag pinagawa mo sa bara barang mekaniko yari ang electrical mo...

i think a sentra would be a good buy. very reliable car, low on maintenance and fuel efficient.

to add to my previous post,
pag ganitong route ka, you pay pa for around 7-8k/month, pero mas makakatipid ka sa maintenance dahil pwede mong ipa maintain sa labas.

at least bago oto mo, and medyo wala pang magiging problema.

i'd go for a basic, easy to maintain easy to fix car like a corolla. basta yung kayang gawin ng iyong friendly neighborhood mechanic para tipid sa maintenance. isama mo yung kilala mong mechanic pag tingin nyo sa kotse, make sure i-test drive nyo, at dapat bago pa kayo pumunta meron kayong check list. very important ito for buying a second hand car, ang check list. kasi ang siste e pag andun ka na e excited minsan nakakalimutan i-check ang mga dapat tignan. pag meron kang check list at least di mo forget ang mga important things to check. sama dyan sa check list na yan ang pagkuha ng engine and body number stencil para ma-verify mo sa lto and crame kung carnap ang car o hindi.

umpisahan natin check list mo, add na lang mga tsongs for additional pointers to check?
    1. check engine oil dipstick. this does not really tell much but it will tell you if the oil has been changed recently.
    2. check the v-belts are not loose, not worn and frayed, and not treated with belt dressing (parang may oil or tyre black). if it has belt dressing then the seller is trying to hide something there, like squeeky pulleys or worn out belts.
    3. start the engine, it should start at the first try. pag 2x or more, something wrong there. skip that buy if it does.
    4. listen for rough running at idle and all throughout the speed range of the engine. pag ayaw ipa-high rev ng seller ang makina, don't buy it. that means the engine has problems he does not want you to find out.
    5. open the oil filler cap with the engine running (do this with the engine still cold). put your palm on the hole (as in cover it with your palm) and feel for blow-by. if the pressure seems too high, then that engine probably will be needing an overhaul soon. a little pressure is normal, but anything that needs you to exert to keep the pressure in is not.
    6. check the brakes. the brake pedal must not be hard nor should it go to the floor. check also the brake pads (if disks). check also the brake master cylinder, make sure the transparent plastic body is clean and the brake fluid is clean. this will tell you much on the kind of maintenance the owner did to the car. remember, the brakes are the most important part of any vehicle. yup it's the brakes and not the engine.
    7. drive the car. let your mechanic ride beside you and also at the back. and open the windows (do i need to tell you to turn off the sound system!) so you can hear every squeek and thud it makes.) run the car at about 40kph, let go of the steering then slam the brakes hard. if it veers to one side, it has either suspension, alignment or tyre issues. need i say the brakes also need to work to your satisfaction? now switch places with your mechanic, he drives and you listen.
    8. listen to the brakes when you apply it lightly. if you hear a squeek, the brake pads are worn.
    9. feel the transmission. run through all the gears at least 100 times. oh all right, 5 times! siguruhin mo na pasok lagi sa lahat.
    10. check the suspension. push down hard on each of the 4 corners of the car. if it bounces more than once then the shock absorbers probably need replacement.
    11. check the aircon. dapat hindi mabaho ang amoy, it must be cold, and should cool the car within a few minutes even under the hottest sun.
    12. check the temp gauge. must not go ver the 1/2 range.

This will give u an idea kung honest ang kausap mo. Check under the mats, Tingnan kung butas na ang flooring.

Try to meet the owner of the car around 1pm yung tirik ang araw, dito mo makikita kung mag ooverheat ba ang makina kpag tinest drive mo at makikita mo kung kaya ng AC. Make sure na he'll be driving at least 30 mins from your meet up place.

Sa unang start, let ur mechanic stand sa likod looking sa tambucho. Pag mausok most likely bka pa-overhaul ka pa.

walang bangga mula umpisa (me konti gasgas)-no accident
hindi pa laspag at school office lang
orig pa lahat, Cd changer, airbag, mags , stock pa pati paint di pa nagalaw

When looking for 2nd hand car make sure hwag sa Buy and Sell....

Body dapat walang masilya... try mo pumunta ng show room katukin mo yung Bnew....

Madalas lang po ha hindi all the time.... Well base on experince lang po...

Choises ko nun sa 160T budget ko is:
1st choice 1997 to 98 Sentra Series 3 or 4 super saloon... Kasi bukod sa all power na siya maganda pa interior(Basta walang mga mark and cracks yung dash board... I believe fuel consumption is pareho lang or hindi nagkakalayo sa mga 1.6 na engine... ang ayaw ko lang is Sensors kasi EFI siya... Dito mo ilalaan yung 20K na budget in the future(worst case senario po)

2nd choice Corolla Bigbody Gli...

3rd choice Corolla Bigbody XE or XL...

5th choice Mitsu Glxi... Ayoko dito suspension... Interior hindi ko rin ganun ka type...
