If buying now, I would say go for the Mazda6. If you can wait next year, go for the new Accord with turbo engines.

July 16th, 2017 04:52 PM #6Buying now? Or can wait until next year? I've always preferred the Accord over the Camry, especially if the car is going to be owner driven. The current Accord is also quite good looking, personally. There's nothing new or special about the engine though, which is just an improved version of the one in our 12 year old Accord. While the engine is very reliable, hardly skipping a beat in our 104tkms old unit, IMHO for the same amount of money, turbo diesels are much more enjoyable. Perhaps you can consider the Mazda 6 Skyactiv D.

If opting for a diesel car, you may want to consider a VW Jetta or Golf GTS wagon. These Euro diesel compacts are bigger and heavier than its Asian counterparts, more like the size of midsize cars circa 2005-2008. The 2017 Jetta 2.0L TDI is priced from 1.1M to 1.3M, depending on the model. The 2017 Golf GTS wagon is priced between 1.3M to 1.4M.

July 17th, 2017 12:32 AM #10Ah... Understood. The Wildtrak holds its resale value pretty well, so it can be a good interim vehicle.
I've heard many good things about the Altima overseas. But despite being available locally for quite some time, I don't recall ever seeing any on Philippine streets so far. I don't know if its bad marketing on Nissan's part or that the competitors are just that much better. But even if it is a good car, a very small local population will mean poor parts supply outside the casa, especially in the long run. This can be a huge headache and might lead to months-long time out in the garage due to lack of spare parts. When that time comes, it'll be near impossible to sell.

I hope they improve the interior a bit. The current is IMHO low-rent for the price.
