What is the purpose? If I have the budget for Sta. Fe, I'll go with Sta. Fe...
i'd get the Sta Fe or Sportage, the only advantage of the MS and fortuner over the Sta Fe/sportage is ground clearance and off road capabilities but every thing else the StaFe/sorento wins for me.
edit ko para mas clear
here are the advantages of stafe/sportage and ms/fortuner over each other:
stafe/sportage: performance, quiet engine, features, interior look, leg room, seats.
ms/fortuner: ground clearance, off road capabilities, probably maintenance in the long run since it has less features than stafe/sportage.
looks will depend on the buyer, for me the MS ang pinaka pogi but i'd still buy the stafe over it simply because it is much better. fc won't have a huge difference between all 4.

Sa Montero Sport ako.
I'm generally wary towards common-rail diesels, but at least the MS engine is based on the 4D56 platform (that is, assuming na 2.5L variant ang nasa choices mo).
Sorento ako. Then Santa Fe then Fortuner then Montero.
The first two are superb when it comes to speed and acceleration, mainly because of it's modern engines ( r/-evgt ) ... and, the ride is really plush unlike the other two, quite bouncy.
However, the remaining two aren't that suck-ish `cause the higher ground clearance is really advantageous and it has more off-road capabilities than the other two.
At the end it boils down to your preference and needs.

Sorento - matindeh ang risk mo dito since you're investing a lot of money to a dealership network that is so unreliable pa, even their pricing schemes are not uniform
Montero/Fortuner - pagsabayin ko na lang ha. the only reason why these cars are still popular is bec. they are mitsu/toyota. pero tangke of car to drive ladder frame and even big suv in manila. for me, it's not an advantage but a disadvantage if you're always the driver.
Don't get caught up in the Korean companies media hype with crdi etc.
In actual fact, all the opposition have crdi (common rail direct injection) for many years as well.
Sure the Koreans have eVGT, and the Toyota/Mitsubishi has not introduced it yet despite selling on the European market for years. That will change in the new year with he Montero Sport 2.5 VGT.
Before the hypers start on about the 'e' (electronic) in front of the VGT on the Korean offering. The 'e' is just the type of actuator. The manifold pressure sensor reading is sent to the cpu which in turn controls the electric vane actuator. The Mitsubishi system has also got a pressure sensor that mechanically controls the vane actuator.
Maybe the 'e' cpu controlled one is slightly more efficient maybe not. Hyundai have not given any evidence that it is, but am sure it's system is cheaper to produce and not a major breakthrough (but another unnecessary letter on the spec sheet. Mitsubishi do not put an 'm' before the vgt
So before you get all caught up in letters, almost all diesel engines sold today are crdi and most of the modern ones have vgt.
It is purely a market ploy by the Koreans manufacturers (more letters after the engine sells more units).
Coming from Europe, I have seen the Korean entries (remember the sCoupe from 1991) to the market (at first with Mitsubishi engines). They have no doubt come on leaps and bounds, but the quality to withstand long term reliability, still wanes in comparison to their Japanese counterparts. To counter balance this they are a lot cheaper in Europe but I think they are overpriced here in The Philippines.
All the above is my opinion

I think it's not just a hype that Korean crdi engines are much better than toyota or mitsubishi since the Koreans has really improved a lot technologically. They have collaboration with Bosch company who pioneered crdi technology using Bosch components for their crdi/evgt engines. It's like driving a BMW too since same Bosch components they are using..hehehe
Whatever major breakthrough KIA and HYUNDAI have reach on their crdi engine technology sure they are not going to divulge since it's their trade secret. And I think koreans cars are expensive here in the philippines maybe because the supply are all been shipped to europe where they are selling very well while in the philippines people are queuing to get one...peace
