    Hi fellow Tsikoters,

Me and my wife are still in search of her upgrade car. We trimmed our choices between the 2.0 Subaru Forester or 2.0 Honda CRV both 2010 model.

Need you help to decide which of the two vehicles should we get. Please consider the practicality side of the two like fuel consumption, availability of parts, PMS cost, and durability.

Thank you in advance and more power Tsikot!

You seem to a person who prioritizes being practical above all. Just get the CRV.

Only these two? Did you consider sub compact suvs?

If you require AWD and some offroad capability, go with the Forester. If you just want a city dweller crossover, the CRV 2.0L FWD will be just fine.

Don't expect good fuel efficiency with such vehicles. It's should be the least of your concern when considering vehicles bigger than subcompact or compact sedans and with engine displacements of 2.0L (or bigger). You will be glad to average 6-7 km/L on city routes with such vehicles.

If I were to choose, I'd go with the Forester or maybe spend the same amount of money on a more comfortable used midsize car or increase your budget for a new subcompact car.

We chose those CUV sir for higher ground clearance. As we know, here in the Philippines our road condition and easy flooded streets require a little more ground clearance. But since my wife is a new driver, she opted CUV instead of our existing Fortuner and Strada because according to her its too bulky for her. We also chose second hand since she's a new timer, then bumps and dings will be expected. Less heartache compare to brand new.

Sir, for her, she wants the Forester in terms of look and overall impact. Is it true that, according to our friend who also owns one, the Forester's PMS costs less compare to their Civic? And it required PMS only after every 40k kms (if I remember right).

    Impossible on both accounts.

Casa prices of parts sa Subaru is crazy.

But I hear it's a blast to drive.

By the look of this thread, mukhang mag CRV ka nalang.

Subarus are great to drive. Maintenance is expensive though. The problem is the lack of parts and specialized mechanics. There are more specialist Merc and BMW shops than Subaru shops. You need to be a car guy to maintain one.

The subi maintenance is available on the internet. 40k is the oil change interval on their older transmission.

Since both will be over 10yrs old in a few years. Consider which has better parts availability. Like shocks, engine mounts stabilizers, maybe bushings. Parts like ac clutch and compressor. A/c blower fans. Drive belts. Maybe alternator. Honda will have an edge here.

Dont skimp on the engine oil change and transmission oil change. They last long but if not taken care of. Then you will have expensive repairs.

Consider a brand new Suzuki Ertiga, ground clearance is good enough at 185 mm plus it's brand new. They're offering good discounts lately. If your purpose is to save on maintenance and repair cost, you should avoid the Subaru Forester.
