I'd rather have an "old" well maintained car rather than an abused "new" car for a daily driver (but that's me) the condition of the car is priority. But from my experience, sports car are often times well maintained since their owners are enthusiasts just like us
Is the 350z a converted car? if so, then shy away from it, I'd rather not have the steering column break at 100+ kph.

First car?
As in your first car, ever?
As in, the car you're going to learn to drive in?
If so, it's probably a better idea to get something cheaper and more practical than either a gas-thirsty all-wheel drive sedan or an even thirstier V6 sports car.
What's the budget?

I'm going to pick the 350Z over the Impreza simply because the Impreza isn't an STi or even a WRX. Hence, less excitement. But practicality goes with the Impreza, though. Looks, def. goes to the 350Z. Boy racer bastos-ish type.
