Yeah, strange options. An Apple and an Orange comparison, 2 decades apart. Going to be used for city driving.

For those who know, well, you can understand the dilemma.

    Mirage G4 sedan
    700T
Like: fuel efficient and nimbler around town.
    Dislike: still unknown quality issues.

    1994 W124 E280
    400T well maintained
    160T Kms
    Like: it's a W124
Dislike: consumes more fuel, might be too big, might be too ostentatious.

Used to own an E220 so familiar with maintenance and issues related with W124.

    Heart: Benz
    Mind: Mirage

Ayaw mo ng Sta. Fe?

If you take the fuel issues and can handle the Benz maintenance (along with the requisite downtime for repairs/service given the age) then go for the MB. If not, Mirage it is (or Vios if you're suspect of the Mirage long term durability at this point).

    Option 3:
    1994 W124 E280
Install auto-lpg kit to save on cost of fuel.

results: you get your benz and still end up saving on the cost of fuel.

You want peace of mind, go for the Mirage G4. You'll be happy zipping thru the metro without any problems.

You want pain in the pocket, stress and worries, go for the Benz. However, despite all of that, you may end up with a smile in your face.

But me being practical, get the G4.

Hmmm, tempting but prefer to keep it stock if ever it's the E280.

TheW124 is known to be reliable and having easily available parts
If you plan on keeping it for a long time, I would get the W124
But if you need a reliable commuter car for the next 5 years, get the G4
Another thing, I woudnt have a W124 as an only car
If you can find a coupe...

Is it me or you could get a W210 for the price of a G4?
    400k is a tad expensive for a W124

Given the correct maintenance procedures, an old W124 will outlast a new Mirage. I may get a lot of flak for this remark, but yes my cars are all old (except for the odd Vios) and they are still all road worthy.

I wholly agree, we have a W126 in the family, it has gone through hell and back and its still on the same engine, its body has no rust. The suspensions bits have only been changed recently. Its a diesel so its ruddy slow (we also consider the innova diesel as ruddy slow, so our standards may be a bit high) but it runs properly.

Its a city car so it will be stuck in traffic often
Where would you rather be in, a leather clad spacious cockpit with a perfect driving position loooking straight to the three pointed star on your fabulous steering wheel stitched with immaculately soft leather, or on the drivers seat of a cramped taxi with a small screen that vaguely tells you where to go?

The W124 * 400T is very well maintained. Like they say, the most expensive MB is a cheap one. Never did like the W210, prefer an E39. Anyway, W210 has more risk of having electrical gremlins compared to W124.

Another Benz owner here, therefore W124 ang pipiliin ko in a perfect world. Pero given the gas consumption, hindi nga practical pang everyday car. I have seen the Mirage G4 and to be honest, I find it ugly, the gen 2/2.5 Vios looks a lot better, kung Mirage G4 lang, dagdag na lang ng konti all new Vios na kahit yung J ok na. Another option would be to buy a Diesel Benz, I'm very happy with my 300D W123 and 300SD W126. I really love the 300SD may power sya for a Diesel tapos sobrang tipid, in fact its even thriftier than my 300D. The only problem is finding one in decent condition.

Yeah, the Vios is a good daily driver.

I don't know if its just me, but I'm really not convinced on the longevity of 3 cylinder engines.

Does Vios J have dual airbags? Really can't appreciate the new look of the Vios. Prefer the City.

    Re: Vios looks.

Trust me, ako din nung una. For a guy well used to seeing the cars penned by Paul Bracq and Bruno Sacco, it takes getting used to.

But you'll learn to "appreciate" it, eventually. :D

Still like the City. Have seen the Vios already, although a lot of people find it nice, just can't seem to appreciate it. The thing with the City is it's going to be replaced next year. Have been trying to find the specs of Vios 1.3E, it's not on Toyota website.

Just need an economy car and the G4 seems to be the most economical and the latest along with the Vios. Will go peruse the 2013 Vios thread, when was the Vios launched?

Also, coming from someone who used to buy second hands and take time to fix them up, with tight schedules and all nowadays, having a brand new daily driver is really appreciated. Heck i'm getting irritated already with having to send the car for service every 5,000kms unlike other brands which already have 10,000kms service stops.

Yup, the values of 300SD's and 300TD's have been going up recently. Got my 300SD almost 3 years ago for 340K, mechanically it was in good condition but still needed some things done like A/C and reviving the vacuum central locks (PO installed electric power locks which I didn't like), also needed to do away with some of the "tasteful" mods by the previous owner such as putting clear signal lights and clear tail lights and also doing away with the "bling bling" wheels, sourced a set of original "14 Benz 1 mags but was lucky enough to find a set of ultra rare "15 Benz 1's later on.

1994 W124 E280 or 2014 Mirage G4?
