170K should be enough for a 98 Honda City 1.5EXi...

fully loaded, fast, fun and cheap to maintain car.

believe me, that car is plenty quick due to its lightweight and powerful engine.

You both suggested the Corolla(93-97), whats good about it? sorry. clueless ako sa corolla e.
My previous car is a corolla (Type EE), FC ko is 13km/L and the most important thing yong availability ng parts mo.Ala ako naging problema sa engine.

    Hi,

thanks for your replies. San ba maganda bumili ng 2nd hand cars? sa Car lots ba or sa individual sellers? Waw, ang mahal pala ng HB. so mukang I should add the corolla to my options, i'll still look around for a good honda city... I was thinking kase would it be better that it(the city) is a younger car than a corolla in the same price range would be? hirap din pala pumili...

Normally, it would be better, but the City is an older design, thus the rust issues. Mechanically, though, it's decent, but not so "terrific" as to warrant the crazy prices some people are asking for it.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

At that price, it's very difficult to choose. I had to make that choice several years ago, and basically you can get a really cheap car (e.g. Kia Pride or B13 Sentra) and have money left over to fix it, or get a decent car but have no money left for maintenance.

A problem everybody has, regardless of their budget, is that everyone wants a car that "looks" good. Nobody wants to buy a Kia Pride if there are other choices available, and at 150K-175K there are a lot of choices.

Even more so if you don't know much about cars, you'll have an internal conversation like this..

"Hmm... I can get this Kia Pride for 75K and have 75K left over to fix everything, repaint it even, and put in a pimpin' sound system... but it's still a Kia. Or...

I can get this Nissan Altima/Honda Accord/Mazda 626 which looks really good.. then I will just pray nothing breaks down soon because I won't have enough money to repair it for the next six months."

Unfortunately, a lot of people (myself included..) go the 2nd route. And then our prayers are not answered, something breaks, and the budget gets wrecked. But cars are emotional, and people get carried away by emotions. I don't think there are a lot of people who get emotional about Kia Prides..

Personally I'd look for a Corolla 1.3 XE or 1.6 GLI (prefer the former more), make sure it's not ex-taxi.

normally mas resonable ang prices sa mga real owners at pwede mo pa mahingi ang last price nila..
ive been to the car lots and i find the prices are way too expensive... nahimas na ksi at napaganda na kya siguro ganun na mga prices nila.

For that budget... Lancer glxi or Corolla XL/XE. You can probably find one in good condition at 120-140k, and still have a bit left for maintenance and repairs.

Why dont you look for Nissan? mura kasi resale value ng nissan, with your budget you can have a sentra model 97 to 00 pa. problem lang about nissan are the parts, medyo mahal compare to toyota pero if you'll ask me between nissan sentra fe 99 model and honda hatchback model 91 ill bet for the nissan. mahal nga parts niya pero may quality naman. Basta tingnan mo lang makina at ilalim
