Emong: You mentioned na naka lightweight BBS yung Civic mo, yung Altis ba stock mags? Baka dun nagkakatalo.

Nakaka 9 or 10 km/l din naman yung altis namin pag may halong highway or walang traffic. Yung comparisson ko earlier is base sa normal daily use from home to work and back to home.

(So I still prefer to use my civic hatchback 10-12 km/l city driving) hehe tipid!

in the first C! 1.6L sedan comparo... the Civic A/T was the slowest to 100kph (16 secs). they theorized that is due to the lousy tranny.

0~2500 rpm 12 valve mode siya. Then pag lampas ng 2500 rpm gagana ang 16 valve mode but take note low cam profile pa rin ang gamit. Pag dating ng 4800 rpm gagana yung racing cam profile which has longer duration and mas malalim ang bukas ng valve.
Kaya pala ang hina ng hatak, you'd have to really floor the gas to accelerate. Ganyan din sa CRV namin, parang ang hina humatak pag below 2500 rpm, might be another reason for the poor fuel consumption.

But the fact is, "Hondas are torqueless". Mababa ang torque ng mga honda compared to its class. Ang typical design kasi ng Honda mas malaki ang bore sa stroke kaya low end torque is sacrificed for better top end power. Driver's preference nalang yan.

Modern engines don't lean burn, the concept died many years ago due to NOx emission issues. Don't forget that in gasoline engines, air and fuel are PRE-MIXED before it enters the cylinder. Shutting off an intake valve means you're getting less MIXTURE (i.e. air AND fuel), not just less fuel.

    Share ko lang experience ko.

96 Civic VTi M/T - Quick in 1st and 2nd gear, but rather slow acceleration in 4th and 5th. This is probably because of the higher power but lower torque.

96 Corolla GLi M/T - Adequate acceleration in all gears but strongest in 4th. I can really feel the torque advantage.

They are both 1.6 but have rather different driving characteristics. Like one of you said, Hondas are made to be revvy, so they're happiest near the redline. You need to work through the gears if you want brisk acceleration. The slick gearbox is a great joy to shift anyway, but at the expense of fuel economy due to plenty of revs. Toyotas, on the other hand, allow you to shift to higher gears earlier, due to more torque. They offer good acceleration in any gear, which means you tend to save more fuel.

For the last 12 years Toyota na ang binibili namin.
LiteAce, 1.6Gli Corolla, 2003 Rav4, (VX200 Revo=for sale, reason, gusto namin ng mas malaki pa, so we are looking at the Prado or the Seqoiua) (Tama ba spelling ko dun?)

Dahil, IMHO, napakatibay ng engine ng toyota.

For example, LiteAce namin binili ng 1993. After 10 years, wala pa ring kaprobleproblema yung LiteAce namin, nakakaakyat pa ng Baguio ng walang kahirap hirap.

Todo pasahero ko sa LiteAce. 15 passengers including me! From Qc (near Pegasus) to Imus, Cavite.

(Not lying!) one driver, 2 front passengers, 4 rear passenger, and one trunk passenger! HEHEHE! Tibay noh?

DibA?

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

Although ang Honda ngayon ay may pinanghahawakan na na pangalan, sa power and speed also, kasi i have tried and tested na rin ang Civic Vti and Civic SiR, I will still go for a toyota. Tried and tested ko na kasi ito.

    if it matters hehehe,

i have an '02 Altis 1.8G...best toyota i've had so far ('96 XE, '00 GLI)!

mileage (on velocity): 7-8 in the city, 15 on the highway...i luv that part :-) dahil siguro nga yun sa binanggit na power-to-weight ratio...

yung sa tranny naman, pag city driving mas gusto ko naka disengage yung power mode nya. i really don't like the way it works at city speeds (below 50kph), as it downshifts too early at magastos pa sa gas. pero sa hi-way, masarap yung power mode niya, enjoy! hehehe

but i really love its "brad pitt" torque esp in city traffic ;-)

my only gripes against it were the fake wood panelling (too light in shade), the seat cushions are a bit too firm, the drivers seat back cant be leaned up and forward as far other cars i've driven, and the yokohamas that came with it... but i felt i got my money's worth on this car

nothing against honda, in fact i love its smooth ride. kaso, it looks so small inside and outside for a 4-door sedan ...and shall i say plain? maybe the accord would be nice :-)

but going back to the original question? hmmm...i'd stick w/ the toyota, but in manual trans if i want to enjoy the peppy 1.6L engine. i still hold the opinion that for an A/T to work efficiently you need at least a 1.8L engine, for the compact sedans

Altis pa rin. I pretty much believe it will have a higher resale value in the long run.

Nothing against Honda but one of my colleagues got a Civic VTI-S one month after i got my Vios. Last month, i noticed that there was a Honda tow truck on our company Motorpool. It turns out that his gas tank fell out while he was driving along Malinta.

tol, para sa akin kung civic or altis- i would prefer altis, both are good cars co'Z i have already this before and recently i'd bought new crv-which still honda, why? i don't know! may be i like the saleswomen, anyway -wag na tayong lumayo sa topic na gusto mo.well here in the middle east, iam here working-for many years stayed and experience having a car,one thing i know that when you sellng or sawa kana sa tsikot mo,especially toyota ay the value of toyota compare to honda is more,i mean mas-mataas at kaya mong ibenta na ayon sa dika malulugi at higit sa lahat ang piyesa nya ay mas-mura kaysa sa honda.ito lang ang mababahagi ko sayo sa lakaran ng sasakyan d2 sa m.e. ngayon nasa iyo parin ang huling desisyon dahil ikaw ang bibili at gagamit, ang sa akin ay experience ko d2,have a nice day and i hope i give you some hints and regards there in philippines-mabuhay kayo dyan...
