in market placement terms:
Civic VTi-S = Corolla 1.8G
Civic VTi = Corolla 1.6G

In terms of pricing mas magkalapit yung VTi-S and 1.6G
Yung 1.8G nasa 900+ yung price dati. Don't know the price now.
if Honda will release the 2.0 i-vtec civic...well that would be another story...it would be a match against the Lynx CE and a notch higher than the 1.8G

Lancer ka na lang... out na daw sa market yung 2004 model... evo look na daw yung bago and now comes with ABS w/ EBD and more stuff!!! Hehe...

Well if you're looking for speed the civic is ok since they are built for it but if you're considering undershasis and engine studiness, the toyota tops this. Also consider the resale value since for sure 2 to 3 yrs frm now you'll surely sell it...
