    Hi All.

    You might also want to consider whether there will be a mdel change for next year. As far as I've researched, the Corolla will still be here by 2006. The Civic however :

    http://www.channel4.com/4car/gallery...ic_page_5.html

    DI ko alam if I posted it right. Anyways, I think mga late 2006 pa mag momodel change sila pareho. Alam ko is very secretive talaga Toyota when it comes to new models kaya hirap sila malusutan ng spyshots.

    Tama ba impression ko na mas frequent mag model change ang Honda?

    Both are good cars.

    I was in similar situation last December. While still abroad, I requested my youngest brother to go to Toyota and Honda dealers and take a look at Altis and Civic features and prices/discounts/freebies.

    My youngest brother only went to the Toyota dealer and was impressed with the 1.8E. He didn't bother going to the Honda dealer. Two more reasons he gave were: a) that the Civic might change models soon kaya baka hindi na gaanong pogi and b) kung titingin pa ng iba, baka tumagal ang pagbili (this was valid since my vacation was only for a 3-week period).

    I arrived on a Friday, went to the dealer and made a reservation including color selection on Saturday, paid on Monday and got the car Tuesday.

    My personal experience with Honda and Toyota cars:

    1. I had a Civic 1.5 (Jpn) from 1989 to 1993. It was already 5 years old noong binili ko. In the 4-year period na ginamit ko, isang beses lang ako tinirik. May nasirang relay doon sa AT.

    2. I had a Corona 1.8 (Jpn) from 1993 to 1997. It was 3 years old nang nabili ko. Maganda and arangkada niya. Medyo kinakarera natin. In the 4-year period na ginamit, isang beses lang tumirik. Nasira ang time belt, eventhough 70K pa lang ang odometer. Siguro, epekto ng paghataw.

    3. I used to regularly borrow my mother's Corolla 1.6 GLI to save on fuel, since my car was a Galant SS 2.0. I was working in Subic for a period of time (1998-1999) so during weekends nasa Manila but during weekdays nasa Subic. Reliable ang GLI and I was averaging 12-13 km/liter

    The Altis would be a safe option, my friend said that the 1.8li variant has a higher km/li average than the 1.6li variant probably because of the better power to weight ratio or maybe di siya masyado humahataw and dad niya palaging humahataw.

    Just get Altis. It looks better, is more fuel efficient, and easier to maintain.

    I took possession of a VTi last week and I wish we got the Mazda 3 instead. The VTi's so conservative and bland.

    Sup Guys!
    We have both cars (2002 Altis G; 2001 VTi and 2003 VTiS) all A/T and here's my comparisson:

    Gas milage:
    Civic= 9~10km/L*
    Altis= 7~8 Km/L

    Aircon:
    Civic= Conventional electronic control thermostat
    Altis= Climate control*

    Size:
    Civic has more legroom
    Altis has more headroom

    Brakes:
    Mas malakas ang brakes ng 2003 VTiS kaysa Altis per mas malakas ang brakes ng altis kaysa 2001 VTi

    Handling:
    Mas stable at highspeed yung VTi dahil naka 17" lightweight BBS. Mas matulin din umarangkada yung civic kapag ako lang ang sakay pero pag puno na yung civic (5pax) ang bagal na at hirap umovertake. Yung Altis ok lang kargahan di gaano ramdam dahil mas mataas ang torque ng altis.

    Tranny:
    Magaling ang A/T ng civic dahil marunong mag engine brake at di nag shi-shift agad kapag paakyat. Yung Altis ang bobo kumambyo at mejo may lag ang response kapag oovertake, ang tagal mag down shift tapos pag paakyat maaga kumambyo kaya minsan nabibitin. Yung Civic, ang sarap ipang overtake sa highway. Yung nga lang sa civic during long drive pag binitawan mo accelerator nag eengine brake agad. Pag matagal ka naka rekta nakaka ngawit sa paa pero ok lang.

    Interior:
    Mas ok ang altis, class ang dating mukhang mamahalin. Yung civic, nothing new ordinary lang.

    Exterior:
    Mas type ko yung civic dahil sporty tignan. Yung altis kasi parang pang matanda.

    Over-all:
    Civic ang mas ok dahil unang una mas matipid sa gas. Tapos mas maganda ang handling nya. Mejo may understeer kasi ang altis at parang lilipad pag matulin na. Yung civic kahit 150 kph na di mo pansin.

    Sana nakatulong ito kung di pa siya nakapag decide.

    Are you sure mas malakas humatak ang VTi-S automatic sa Altis? Tsaka yung fuel consumption, pano mo tinest?

    Parati full tank kung magpakarga ako. Kada karga ko ng gas nirereset ko yung trp meter to monitor the fuel consumption. Mas malakas ang Altis kaysa Civic vti and vtis. Pati yung hatak mas ok ang civic dahil parang gusto lumndag pag apak ng gas. Yung altis mejo swabe.

    Ngayon ko lang narinig na mas malakas Altis kaysa VTi. Sa lahat kasi ng kilala kong owners sinasabi matipid talaga yung Altis. Yung namang may VTi/S, from moderate to guzzler daw ang consumo. Automatics nga pala 'tong tinutukoy ko.

    Altis G and Civic VTI/s namin all matics. Kainis nga gamitin yung Altis eh ang lakas sa gas lalu sa city driving 10 days lang nagpapafull tank na ko ulit pero sa civic, nagpapangabot ng payday ang pagpapakarga. Sino naman may sabing gas guzzler ang civic? Yun nga ang may pinaka matipid sa lahat ng 1.6 eh.

    dude magkaiba ang VVT sa Vtec.
    Ang VVT like I said nag aadvance ang camgear as the engine speed increases using oil pressure. Ganito ang itsura ng camgear ng VVT:

    Sa Vtec 3 naman, nagbabago ang cam profile mismo. 0~2500 rpm 12 valve mode siya. Then pag lampas ng 2500 rpm gagana ang 16 valve mode but take note low cam profile pa rin ang gamit. Pag dating ng 4800 rpm gagana yung racing cam profile which has longer duration and mas malalim ang bukas ng valve. Check it out! http://asia.vtec.net/article/d15b/

    dude i meant difference of the distribution of power on the whole rev range (altis evenly distributed while vtec3 is on a 3 stage mode), not the mechanical differences.
