I'd go with the Getz... the facelifted version just looks like a French vehicle (just remove the Hyundai badge).

The base model Vios just looks el cheapo (steel rims w/o wheel covers) plus the interior looks old-ish too. Not worth the extra money over the Getz.

Though personally... I'd rather drive a Kia Picanto... the candy red paint just looks nice.

    good taste sir mazdamazda!
i own a candy red picanto. hehehe.
though, on hindsight, i should have
gotten the green one with black bumpers.
ganda! looks so "europeanish", if ever there
    was such a word. hehehe.

korean cars have definitely improved and i think that
they have nowhere else to go but up.
kia and hyundai have definitely learned
from their mistakes in the past.

    2 or 3 years ago, i wouldn't buy a kia.
i still have some reservations regarding
    korean-made cars. but those reservations
are fading as quickly as gasoline prices are rising. hehehe.

Toyota Vios 1.3 J owner here. I drive it mostly City driving. Eto fuel economy ko:

Anyway since sinabi mong malaking bagay sa iyo ang 85k, go for the Getz.

    1.) Toyota Camry 2006
    2.) Mazda 6 2005/2006 (forgot the year)
    3.) Hyundai Sonata 2006
    4.) Pontiac Grand Prix 2006

Actually pwede ko narin sabihin when it comes to comfort and performance parehas sila ng Toyota Camry.

You save 85k which we know is big money in Pinas and pwede mo pa itong gawing buffer for maintenance costs and personal investments.

    candy apple red getz!

i've also seen a matrix in that color. it's pretty appealing naman..

the 1.4L getz is a gas model. the 1.1L gets as low as 12km/L when driven "like a 1.6" as niky would put it. not surprising.. a FULLY LOADED 0.66L suzuki super carry with 8 people (jeepney of the new millennium) only gets 4km/L! that's Exped territory!

you might also want to consider the new suzuki swift free 2 years change oil and km checkup !!! san ka pa? hehehe. anyway got their promo sa SM MoA. may display din ng dressed-up swift dun.

was just reading forbe's best buys of 2006

aside from the civic, F-150, rav-4.. we have the hyundai azera, tied with the toyota avalon. now that really says something when as staid and conservative a publication as forbes puts a hyundai in the same list as the acura RL, toyota avalon, E90 bimmer..

if you're at all concerned about resale, get the toyota.

i think right now the hyundais are "first owner cars" -- meaning, if you intend to resell it, you'll take quite a beating. they'd make good second owner cars though. same with old mazdas. :P

If you intend to keep the car, ok lang naman ang Hyundai. Tipong ipapa-mana mo na sa anak at apo mo (hey, that happens a lot in my clan). hehehe.

But with the continous improvements of Hyundai products and image, resale might even become good a few years from now.

kaya better buy a Hyundai now, before tumaas pa yan. I heard no. 4 na ang Hyundai sa America ngaun. ako nga inip na inip na din madispatsa yun isang tsikot dito para may pang-down na kami sa Tucson CRDi.

kutob ko lang parang mag-dominate muna ang CRDi engines in the next 2 or 3 years bago ang Hybrid cars. Europe and other developed countries have already started the trend. CRDi din yun mga bago BMW and Benz ngaun d'ba?

I'm a Getz owner myself, let's just put it this way, 1. I wanted to break away from the
"family vehicle", i.e. own my own vehicle and 2. the old "family vehicle" has been around for quite some time so I needed a "replacement" at hand just incase. Honestly, i prefer UVs over cars, BUT since at the time of purchase, my money was only enough for a 2006 1.4, so I had to settle for the available 2005 1.1 (long story but anyway) I don't have any regrets so far for purchasing her. All I do is just bear in mind its limits, e.g. power, size, etc. and not pretend that she's something else. I wasn't too concerned bout resale too since I was hoping of keeping her for as long as it takes. just my 2cents.

Thanks, B2Bomber... and to all those who gave their insights.

...upto now, undecided pa rin ako. O.T., pero did you guys see Petron's new commercial? The winner of their sponsored challenge drove a Jazz CVT... 1,400.4 kms on a full tank of gas!!! On a 42-Li capacity, that will give a whopping 33.34 km/Li!!! )

Anyways, by July pa naman ako magiging financially capable of buying the car, guess I'll just make the decision then (siguro coin-flip na lang gagawin by then ) ...guess what I'll do next is to visit the dealers to see how much discount and freebies they can give me tapos tignan at test drive narin yung kotse kung pwede.

...any tips on how to get the best price / deal from these dealers?

kung sa hyundai dami deals. nagtatanong pa lang ako sa display nila sa SM MoA, andami na kagad freebies binabanggit sakin like free chattel and some car accessories. puwede pa daw maka-discount.

mas masarap bumili kung on-display ang units nila sa malls. kasi atat sila magbenta coz of addl rent. pero kung walk-in ka sa showroom nila medyo tamad sila sa ganyan.

el-fake-o yung petron 1400km na yun.

they drove at night para walang traffic, meron silang escort, and they never exceeded 60km/h. wala pang aircon.

mas maniniwala pa ako dun sa report ng isang hyundai matrix crdi owner on this board na 21km/L daw papuntang ilocos. at least yun hindi sobrang controlled yung environment.

yeah, i know that'd be impossible on normal driving conditions... pero yun talaga ang ideal car para sa akin e. Practical na (ULT hatchback), maganda na ang labas at loob (for its class), matic pa, at matipid pa!

based sa observations ko sa friends ko sa Hyundai... punta ka ng mga before end of the month. yung tipong di pa nila narereach quota nila and then dun ka makipagbargain...pakapitin mo sila sa patalim ika nga. :-D

    hi everyone,

newbie here. just wanted to share my experience on both cars.

had a chance to drive a getz 1.1 (hip hop red). the car was with us for a whole month (february) before it was replaced with our current car, a vios 1.3 E. replacement was because of my wife's promotion.

both cars have their advantages and disadvantages. the getz interior is far better designed for me, the vios'? hohum...

engine? of course the vios is right there- a tad much stronger and much thriftier up to 14km/l compared to the getz' 10 to 12km/l (mixed driving, and these are my estimates).

i could get on and on but driving the getz was a whole lot of fun. don't underestimate its size. once you get in you would be surprised. if you like rooting for an underdog, go for the getz it won't disappoint.

and remember COTY sa subcompact category ang GETZ. second placer? the vios.

    just my contribution...
