I guess the best persons to decide for TS are who will be paying for the car. Most likely the parents and they will be also the ones paying for gas & maintenance.

I told my daughter that when the time comes she will learn to drive, she can use whatever we have available. I will not buy her a new one so that she will learn how to take good care of stuff we paid for. When the time comes she has her own money, she can buy what she wants.

A few years back, I know someone who was given a car by their parents. Nawalan ng work yung dad pero mas may effort pa maghanap ng new work kaysa anak nya. Even worse, gusto nung anak na lagi pa nililinis yung kotse nya.

Sobrang pagmamahal sa anak, they failed to realize the future implications.
This thread is getting derailed.🤣

Practical suggestions Bai, coming from the Masters [emoji38].
I agree with the suggestion of renting near, or even dorm, even if 6 kms away lang Ang bahay nila. Walang exposure to driving hazards, a lot of time to rest rather than on the road. And matuto sya to keep his feet on the ground.
Kung gusto porma, edi buy pa rin the vehicle, so meron syang pang la mierda
My 8yrbold daughter said kanya na daw Mux pag laki nya.

use what is already available.
consider getting another vehicle, if and after yours gets waterlogged.
for all we know, "it will never happen" during your stay there, what with the education impartation changes covid is forcing us to adopt...
i know of some folks,
instead of bothering with purchasing a car,
they rent living space across the university.
they figured, at the end of four years, they're financially ahead, compared to had they purchased and maintained a car, instead..
hindi pa na-pagod.
honestly, best advice =)
But maybe may bahay sa Otis sila TS making it hard to justify renting another one while the house is not in "frequent use". Who knows.
I would agree to use what is available also sa garage ng family. But baka sakto na sa current need nila and nagallot naman dad to add for that expected college years na isang vehicle. So the alternative is TS can get what is available in the garage while the dad then tries to find a new set of wheels to replace what was used by TS =)
Take it 1 step further. Buy a condo in the area. No parking expense. No worries about the vehicle getting flooded. No gas expenses. No traffic. You can wake up 30 minutes later since you only need to walk, no time wasted in traffic and finding a parking spot.
And the best reason. After graduation, SELL IT AND GET YOUR MONEY BACK.
I am my kids driver when i am on vacation. My usual route is to enter via Dapitan and then park in front of the high school building. I would then normally go out again to Dapitan on foot and buy food for my daughter and wait until she is dismissed from class. In the 2 years i did this i have never heard of any hold ups or snatching. The students go around dapitan and P.Noval casually. Also there seem to be occasional police presence which discourages any bad personages from going there. Even during night time when the students living in the area come out for their dinners they don't seem to be concerned with crime. Although the latest i was there in dapitan was maybe 8:30pm when my daughter had a late cheer dance practice i don't think it is any different at later hours. My wife also was president of the class pta last year and crime around the university was never in the agenda. So no, there does not seem to be any reason for concern.

Hindi na, for me walkable na yung area even at night.
BTT: I would recommend the Jazz. It's a good choice your age. Kapag baha, madalas walang pasok. Kung inabutan sa school at baha dadaanan paguwi, a good reason to sleep over. Enjoy your youth!

Maraming salamat sa clarifications. Good to know na okay na ngayon.
