    hi there bros,

i'm considering buying a second hand multi-purpose vehicle, pangharabas sa barrio...and i woulld like to ask the ff. factors to decide upon: fuel consumption, parts availability coz of old age model & maintenance.

i'm very much aware sa diesel engine somehow but if the gas variant is not too far off pwede na din piliin over the other...

owner type jeep sana but everyone told me kung kukuha ng unit choose na ginawa ng legit. manufacturer at least my safety feature at specification lahat ng parts unlike the former.

your inputs is highly appreciated, thanks in advance mgs sir/s...

Magkano ba ang budget mo bro? Yung simbahan namin merong isang lumang 1997 FX diesel.

Yung ganito oh, perfect for pang-harabas. Maporma pa. Toyota Tamaraw FX High Side Diesel MT - 97 | Other Vehicles, Accessories & Parts for sale Valenzuela | AyosDito.ph

Ang linis niyang FX na yan ah. Sayang lang di na stock rims, but it looks really well maintained.

Ako I'll go for gasoline. Lagin may repair. Di talaga maganda Toyota na diesel ever since. No offense!

Since pang-barrio harabas lang naman, I suppose any of the two will do. Basta may tamang alaga, both will serve you well. But then, yung diesel mas mura by P10/L, so there's the deal clincher. Also, 1.8L carb engine siguradong malakas humigop yan, lalo na't luma na.

diesel or gas does not matter...as long as the consumption is efficient. sir gti do you have experience having an old model gas car having this case? is it always the notion that once old (engine) the fuel consumption suffers terribly? kindly share your views sir...TIA

I still remember our old 1989 Nissan Sentra 1.6SGX. We sold it back in 2000. As the it got older, fuel consumption increased, increased drastically at that. I remember at that time, we filled it up with P200 unleaded gasoline. Our relative would fill her 1993 Lancer GLXi with P50 unleaded gasoline and it would last about just as far!

Besides, carburetor engines are known for being inefficient and weak as compared to EFi engines of the same displacement. 1.8L is also not considered small displacement already. Even modern 1.8L engines would get just 7-9km/L city on average.

So mas gusto mo pala yung wagon type. I thought since pang harabas, baka mas magiging practical ang FB type. Kung sakaling talagang nagkaproblema ka with the 2C engine, pwede siguro i-swap yan ng 2L engine ng Revo. Its more powerful and has no known sicknesses to be worried about. I'm sure it wouldn't cost much.

since not much knowledgeable on carbs, your expert opinions based on personal experience is highly valuable to consider sir gti

pangharabas na may porma naman sana sir hehe altho still a good choice w/ regards sa mga revo units but the price range is gonna be high...but...your suggestion of getting an FX unit replaced w/ revo engine is another good idea, i'll try to research more on this set-up at least for assurance of longer utilization and personal satisfaction...hindi muna po ako magpapasalamat sir baka may kasunod pa hehe

I'm not sure if this would help..but my uncle who still uses their 1997 FX GL gas model as their service (usually fully loaded) for their canteen in UST tells me that he consumes around 5-6 km/L..his daily route is from Araneta going to UST via p.margal..so I guess talagang malakas lang sa gas yung mga FX na 1.8 carb..

Probably I would consider the diesel fx.

The Fortuner 2.7VVTi drinks about this much, pati na rin maraming smaller displacement V6 engines... And then gasoline costs P10/L more than diesel...

Our diesel Revo gets me around 7.5km/L city driving. I am a rather heavy footed driver. In fact I floor this car a lot. Lighter footed drivers who have driven our Revo get much better FC numbers.

IMHO hindi naman lagi na turbocharged diesels consume more than n/a diesels. My lead-footed uncle used to own a manual box-type 3 door Pajero. He had the original 4D56 transplanted with a 4M40 engine (still with the original manual tranny). Napakabaliw nun magmaneho! And yet he still gets 8km/L on average. It is all about the power to weight distribution. Kung n/a nga pero you have to flog it to keep a decent pace, malakas din ang paghigop niyan.

ganun sir, takot naman po ako sa consumption nya considering mas maliit displacement ng engine nya...baka naman po naka-modified kaya ganun or hindi po properly maintained coz yun nga pangdelivery na, just guessing lang po...dapat yun time to replace na IMO lang sir...

this is definitely true dahil most of the time i know na fuel consumption also depends on the foot of the driver not only on the car itself, sisihin ba naman sasakyan eh kung magpatakbo naman akala mo wala ng bukas hehe...i'm not like that if theres a need to be light pedal crusher gagawin for savings purposes sir...

OT: ^ oo nga, nun kasagsagan na nasa 50 and up ang presyo ng gas, nagtataka ang mga barkada kung bakit madalas ko pa rin nagagamit yung Revo, sinasabi ko na lang, matipid naman to KAHIT PAPAANO e, since light footed lang naman ako, takbong swabe/pogi lang sa expressway, neutral kapag medyo pababa yung daan at most of the time di ako naka-aircon (except pagtanghaling tapat talaga)...just a hint pa, malakas yung revo gas kapag yung rear aircon/dual aircon e naka-on on it's max. since malamig naman aircon ng revo, i just using the front/dashboard aircon even though i have a passenger at the backseat and i just keep the rear aircon off. siguro nakaka-harness din ako ng 10km/L on mixed driving condition.

In my Opinion naman, over the gas or diesel Fx, I most prefered the gas (5k or in some models already 7k carb engine) di talaga ako sampalataya dyan sa diesel ng toyota lalo na yan 2C na yan, I went from an automotive technical school at talagang yan ang pinaka-ayaw namin buuin/kumpunihin for some trial/troubleshooting practicum noon...sa gas oo, it is so reliable talaga. Kung maiistretch mo sana budget better to get an Isuzu Hi-Lander over these Toyota variants, it is jurassic though proven and reliable.

there are lots of pros & cons between the two variant...and maintenance is also a factor so kahit pala sa technical school negative feedback ng 2C maybe kaya pala hindi masyado nagtagal ang engine type nya unlike its predecessor na 2L w/ or w/o turbo pa...too much stretching is prohibited as instructed by my finance manager (mrs.) hehe kaya have to exert extra effort in finding the right engine w/ the right price...thanks sir zap.

i always practice that proper driving & religious maintenance sa mga rides ko...your point in emphasizing the reliability of diesel engine is well accepted sa katulad natin fanboy ng diesel but not to its counterpart, to each his own love & hate...respect na lang each other.

slight knowledge on old school engine but can learn if have the unit, if have the budget i would definitely choose highlander over the other first & foremost coz of its legendary engine even jurassic era model still running in PUJs but the cost is a far off from our limited budget kaya FX came to my mind w/c the coo of the family rightfully approved w/o hesitation pa yun ha...

what i have in mind is to look for unit w/ good engine altho w/ body repairs or no a/c is still acceptable but at a much lower price then i'll take care of the rest...for that i could be able to have it repaired according to my specs & choices of replaced parts...Hoping i could find one...cross my fingers XXX...thanks mga bros for helpful tips & advices...update the thread on this project >>>

Yung Isuzu 4JA1 naman kasi napakausok, kaya calibration lagi. Yun nga lang napakatipid nito at mas malakas ang hatak as compared to the 2.0L FX engine.

Like I said before, any car engine, even the known-to-be-problematic 2C can serve you well if you take care of it properly. Can the 2C be more problematic than the Isuzu 4JX1? And yet it served us well for eight years with minimal breakdown.

The best for me would still be getting an FX in good condition and then get a 2L transplant. You can probably trade in the old engine if it is still in good working order and save a few thousand bucks.
