    Hi guys!!

I just want to ask your expert opinion re: car buying tips for a newbie like me.

The thing is I'm planning to buy my first car. Actually, I already planned to buy one last year but my finances didn't permit it. Last year, i was seriously eyeing a mini-suv. Pero there's nothing in the market na kaya ng budget ko. Unless may alam kayo.

So now sedan na lang cguro. Kc ung Sub-compact I think the choices are Jazz, Yaris. Eh medyo liit siya for me.

One more thing, ayaw ko toyota altis or vios kc parang ang dami na ng ganon....

So any suggestions? Budget ko ay around 700k to 800k. Manual Transmission and Tipid sa Gas. Hope to hear from you soon.

    Lancer 1.6 GLX
    Honda City 1.3 A M/T
    Accent 1.4 M/T
    Fiesta 1.4 M/T TREND
    Sentra 1.3 GX M/T
    Mazda 2 1.5 and 1.3 M/t
    Aveo 1.4 M/T

dami nyan. Depende na sa needs mo kung ano pipiliin mo dyan. Point of advise though, mas maganda ang mga 10k km pms intervals. Less balik sa casa, less gastos.

Okay, sa mga nag-reply thanks. I've been seeing the Lancer 1.6 GLX na one of the choices. Tinitingnan ko nga siya and mukhang ok naman. May mga disadvantages ba ito?

all I can say, bang for the buck ito para sa price niya sa market. nandito na ang lahat para sa mid-size sedan.

major disadvantages : old school engine (not variable valve timing), fuel guzzler for a 1.6 engine, old body (but for me maporma pa rin ito)

when you say its a fuel guzzler? how many km/l ang usual nito? anyway, other than the lancer, from the list from the earlier post what would be the better option? except for the city ha (kc fiancee ko un na ang car niya)...

Really old na ang 1.6 GLX.

The following are probably the best options currently out there in my opinion.
    Honda City 1.3 A M/T
    Accent 1.4 M/T
    Fiesta 1.4 M/T
    Mazda 2 1.5

With the Fiesta and Mazda 2 being my top picks.

since this is using a 1.6 engine, expect that its FC is lower than the others. but not too much. it's design is old (been facelifted twice for the past 7 years). Advantages, more torque, more HP, 4Wheel disc brake and good sound system. We bought one last year and very happy about it. Though my second choice (and probably our new car next year ) is either the 2 or fiesta. Those two have 10k pms intervals which means less hassle going back to casa as well as less maintenance cost. City... Siguro kung may 1.5 m/t.

BTW: Our lancer's FC is 9-11 (km/ltr) city driving. Pag throttle tripping, mga 7-8. Highway is 14-16 (max 120km/hr) but can get to 18 if strictly below 80km/hr.

I know this is kind of too much to ask, but can somebody take the time-off and give me the pro's and con's for each or kahit pa-isa isa?

Otherwise... at 720k, the same price as the Mazda2 sedan, you're getting a crummier interior, much less trunk space (much, much less... and no rear seat pass-through, to boot), worse dynamics, a flintier ride and cheap seats. It has about 10 millimeters more knee room in the back seats, a big deal if you wear knee pads, I suppose.

    2. The Mazda2R hatchback is a wonderful car. Kind of bare for the price compared to the Fiesta, but about the only car in the class even remotely close to the Hondas in terms of interior quality. Decently roomy and much fun to drive (hell, much more fun than some sports cars). If there is a Mazda2 1.5 Sedan with an AT, that would be great. Most responsive to drive of the group with the best transmission.

    3. The Honda City... best room, best materials, seats only so-so in terms of comfort. But expensive. Quite. The 1.3 is absolutely gutless when matched with the 5-speed AT, so I suppose you're asking about the 1.5. The 1.5 with the 5-speed is perfect for most uses and not much worse in terms of economy... the 1.3 is overworked by the long gears and heavy body and returns fuel economy similar to 1.5s.

    4. The Lancer GLS is old. You won't quite get the same knee room or headroom as the newer subcompacts, but it'll have them beat on elbow room when sitting people three across.

The Fiesta Trend PS Sedan comes in at under 800k. The transmission is quirky, but it's got lots of power, fuel economy is similar to the 1.5 ATs (apparently, from reading the Fiesta threads... and, come on guys... the only 1.5 ATs in this class that were any good were the Honda CVTs, and those are gone. Finis. Kaput.), handling is better than the Jazz or even the Mazda2 (though the Mazda2 has better steering) and it's the most loaded. Trunk space is a very close second to the Honda City and interior space is actually slightly better than the Vios. Also mimics Honda's 10,000 km service interval, with cheaper servicing costs, supposedly.

Only big deal for the Fiesta, for me, is the interior plastics. A big letdown... but still better than the 1.3 Vios.

Oh... last word. These new small cars with automatics really aren't that fuel efficient in traffic. So you may think you're saving gas by going for a 1.3 AT, but you're just setting yourself up for frustration. Might as well stump up for a 1.5 AT if you really need a slushbox. Otherwise, stick to a manual transmission.

Thanks. So from the comparison it seems that the Mazda2 and Ford Fiesta are sort of the leaders of the pack. So what would be the major plus and minus for each. I mean cost-wise and maintenance wise. Although, the porma and amenities are major points, ultimately the cost of maintaining the car is a big issue. Although others may also include other cars ..

    Thanks in advance..

    just a suggestion:
if you'd really like to buy a car, then follow what your heart says; if budget is constraint; then try to apply for a car loan in a Bank and once approved buy the car of your dreams....
Here's what you do; if you have 800k in hand; then pay it all as DP and pay the remaining balance by monthly ammortization; since you have a big DP most probably your monthly fee would only be around 6k-10k depending on the car manufacturer though....
