Get a kalesa! Sure win to.... Hehehe! Seriously for me for a first time driver get a stick shift na car na madaling ma modify habang bata ka pa at mahilig sa todo porma ng oto na babagay sa edad mo. When you get old tapos gusto mo pag pa porma naku medyo awkward na lolol!
Dudes, each one of us has their own preferences on our cars but for the everyday newly minted driver who's fortunate enough to get a sponsored car from their parents, I don't think going secondhand would be a wise decision unless he actually invests the time to read and know more about cars. Remember that these are your everyday people.. not gearheads like most of us.
First off, congratulations! Welcome to the car club and the college days. Enjoy your allowance while it lasts :naughty2: Anyway.. getting to the point: I believe the most sensible choice would be a brand new compact car from the likes of the Corolla, Civic, Lancer, etc.
If you're drawn to the Lancer, I won't fault you. The 2007's redesign had many drooling over its release way back (even I did). What I would recommend is that you take each car for a test drive. This way, you'll know the character of the car. Of course, many do a leap of faith in simply buying their car by consulting forums. However, I stress that it's your car.. and you should know what you want. You can pour over the specifications of each and every car but only after driving it can you actually know the car. It's like I can describe you how track day is like.. but until you actually race in one, you can only simply imagine. You're talking about a million here.. so better haul your ass and make an appointment.
As much as every testosterone laden male wants a two-door coupe, it's impractical to purchase one as your first car. I know of this is because I'm supposed to be on the line for the 2010 Genesis Coupe before I went for my Sonata. The manual transmission isn't something I can live with everyday going from QC to Taft.
If you're really digging Accords, secondhand ones go for under Php1 million. Investing a few hours of your life reading Tsikot and you'd probably convince Mom to not limit you to brand-new ones.
Too bad they don't sell Focus TDCi's anymore. But then the 2012 2nd hand units are just as good. I second the Accent CRDi proposition. Turbo diesels will give you a smile everyday with all that humongous torque and great gas mileage. They're the kings of stoplight duels! High horse gasoline engines only get the edge when it comes to a top speed run, which I recommend you wait at least a year or two before doing.
By the way, if you'll be frequenting SLEX, do take note that they strictly implement the 100km/h speed limit there! Skyway is the way to go! They're usually almost empty at night. Just stay away from policemen driving Adventure's!
Most importantly, check out and if possible, test drive the cars you are picking from. No matter what we suggest, whichever captures your heart gets picked!

Brand new for 1M? How about the TOTL Elantra GLS? Or add a few more, you are looking at the TOTL Focus already.
If you want a used one, you have a lot of options for that money. You can get a Focus TDCi, an 8th gen Accord 3.5L V6 with VCM or its 2.4L 4-banger model, previous gen Mazda6, or a previous gen Forester XT. On my end, I will be be leaning towards the Accord or Mazda6. They are more comfortable and this midsizers are no slouch in acceleration and speed. Bling it with bigger wheels and they still ride good. However, if you lean towards mods, a Focus TDCi can easily get piggy-back mods for more torque and HP, new intakes and exhaust, 18" Ford ST wheels, plus the fuel efficiency of a diesel.
if you can stretch your budget to a little over 1M get a new ford focus and forget about trying to go fast with a 1M budget. you'll just look like a fool trying to keep up with real sports car with that kind of budget, want to go fast, get a real sports car not a wanna be sports car. ford focus has a lot of features to play with and enough power for an 18 year old with no driving experience. forget about trying to get a girl using a car it's pathetic, go out and learn to talk to a girl, you don't need a nice car to get a decent girl.![]()
Dont be so judgmental. Wala naman sinabing ipangchichix nya yung car ehi worry for the TS though. Mukhang magiging kaskasero. Ngayon palang craving for speed na eh. Sana di maaksidente.
Ditto with the choice of the car. Focus Titanium + nice mags would be nice.

Or the TS can wait for the new Mazda3 to come out early next year. Maybe he can consider the upcoming Altis or hopefully HondaPH will bring over the modified Civic FB. For a new car for 1M, I'd stick with compacts. IMHO, a mid-trim compact is still a better choice over a similarly priced TOTL sub-compact.
Wow 1M budget. Civic or Focus na lang. Kelangan talaga mabilis at mapogi ang oto para makahatak ng gerlaloos? Ako nga, naka backride lang sa trayk, lingon lahat ng mga chix saken e! Just kidding.
Btw, Mag leatherette seats ka na lang. I bet maraming makikihitch sa ride mo, baka masira lang agad pag naka leather seats ka.
Saka nextime mo na isipin ang speed, as a newbie dapat defensive driver ka muna.
seriously, if you are a beginner, go with something simple.
na release na yung bagong vios..... isa ka sa una.... hehehehehe..... may sukli ka pa.
tutal hihingi ka din naman ng gas money eh, so much better kung fuel efficient ang sasakyan mo.
Good Afternoon,
I'm Jun ong from Toyota Global City might give u an option to choose on our product line. If you are looking for a brand new model, maybe you could make our 2013 ALL NEW VIOS one of your option. Here's the pricelist of the all new vios

1.3 E MT 727,000
1.3 E AT 762,000

Hmm~ Given that the TS hardly even knows how to drive yet, I don't think hard cornering is something that he should be doing at least for a couple of years or so, especially cornering hard enough to upset a midsize sedan's balance, especially considering the Accord's excellent handling...
