Mga peeps, i'm in the process of buying a 7 seater midsize SUV. After looking around, my choice was trimmed down between a Fortuner and the new Sta Fe.
Both will be diesel and x2 variant. Between the 2, which would you prefer and why? I just need your honest to goodness opinion as i'm in a lock-up. TIA

4x2 diesel? Go for Santa Fe. If you want na Fortuner go for the 4x2 gas or the 4x4 diesel.

    Santa Fe: Better car. Period.

    Fortuner: Better off-road.

    -

    Long version:

Santa Fe: Better interior, better seats, better third row (more legroom and elbowroom), better ride comfort, better transmission, more sophisticated engine, superior Bosch diesel system, unibody construction (better crash protection and structural rigidity... the Fort feels kind of "loose" from the back seat, especially over bumps).

Fortumer: Better off-road ability, true 4WD, more torque, bigger tires.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Pag hindi ka mag off-road and resale values are not your primary concern (although maganda din resale ng Santa Fe pero mas maganda sa Fortuner) Santa Fe wins in all counts. The Santa Fe is a global crossover while the Fortuner is only a third world model. Kapag global model mas may kumpyansa tayo sa safety nya... Good luck!

Niky always gives Objective and Factual Opinions. Not the fanboy type comment like the other members. Amen to that.

I am a Santa Fe Owner too.
If you intend to use your Car to seating capacity with lots of baggages most of the time, sa Fortuner ka na lang as it has tougher suspension system.

The SF's soft suspension makes it looks like an airplane on takeoff when fully laden.

Pero kung magagaan lang na loads ang plan mo isakay, say 5 Adult Passengers with light baggages, sa SF ka na.

The problem with the Fortuner is... unlike with the Everest, the ride doesn't get softer when you load it with more people... it just stays stiff. And having experienced both, the third row pews of the Santa Fe are much better in use. Yes, the soft suspension means some "tukod", but that's a small price to pay.

The newer Fort is supposedly softer in the rear, but this makes it more wayward than the old one.

And no amount of suspension tweaking will make the third row in the Fort as big as the one in the Santa Fe... the seating really needs repackaging... the seats themselves aren't bad, but there's just no space in there... even with the second row pulled all the way forward.

There's a lot to like about the Fort 4x4, though... pretty great engine... good 4WD system, good handling... and it's a pretty capable car, but for urban use, a Santa Fe or a Montero is much better.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Sta Fe or Fortuner
