What's a good tall vehicle (SUV or Pickup) which is easy to maintain (not much electronics etc)?

I browsed OLX for the Patrol Safari and I am surprised that these 20+ yr old cars still cost 300k to 400k! Are there other road worthy vehicles that I won't be afraid to drive through floods?

I used to not experience flooding to and from my house, I am appalled that even roads that used to be safe get flooded now!!! I am deathly afraid of driving through floods. I think a taller vehicle would give me more peace of mind. My worst experience was gutter deep flooding in slex/buendia near cash and carry. And I think it will only get worse over time.

I don't like the adventure or revo. If only I could find a hilux like the one they tried to kill in top gear

You might be surprised to see how much some Toyota BJ40 are still worth.

My apologies. I didn't mean to trigger any memories. It's just that I see this vehicle is used mostly by off-road peeps.

The last vehicle that I experienced in a river crossing was a Nissan Pathfinder. The river as about less than a foot away from entering the window! If the current was a bit stronger, we'd be flooded inside. But this too is priced over 200k.

My dad has the Trooper (Big Horn version iirc) and Frontier which were used to visit some properties that were located beyond concrete road. The results?

Trooper had a problem with fried electronics and transmission issues which required parts replacements that are not readily available.

Frontier had gave in within just 2 long trips. The issue being the suspension and wheel axles.

So, I wouldn't advice those 2. I have no similar knowledge with the other vehicles on the list.

Don't ever bother to use a Trooper with a 4jx1 under it's hood, it will cost you an arm and leg when something goes wrong.

BTT: The Isuzu Crosswind a/t or a Mitsubishi Pajero 4d56 turbo/4m40

    Adventure, Crosswind or Revo.

It will be hard to find a Crosswind that fits the budget... Adventure, there are lots... but it isn't as nice as the other two (peace!).

The Revo VX240D is perhaps the best of the lot, but very rare. Following that, search for a pre-2004 Crosswind XUVi or XTO... those have a softer ride than later models (new ones have softer springs and ride decently again, but obviously are not in the price range).

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

    the land rover defender diesel!

errr... why not the adventure diesel? i am told, the engine will keep running even if submerged in water, as long as it has fuel and air. but yes.. beauty is always in the eyes of the beholder.

kilalako.. restored '89 pajero. immaculate! ayaw i-benta... also, it rides like an owner jeep on stilts.. super tagtag.

+1 for the Suzuki Samurai if you can get one in good condition. Also the Isuzu Hilander.

How about the Sportivo Crosswind or the XUV? Cheap enough for a high ground clearance vehicle for a flooded street and pure naturally aspirated diesel engine. Nothing to worry about sensitive electronics.

l300Fb, ours was submerged roof deep in Ondoy still runs until today, ginagamit pa namin sa farm and construction hauling

Now, if you really want yon may prestige naman ng kaunti, get the stradas, yun previous generation. i also had one. Super lakas sa bahaan yun nga lang parang jeepney umarsngkada.

Coz both of these Mitsubishis are diesel workhorses

+1 on suzuki samurai. lifted maybe 2-4 inches with snorkel at di naman malakas ang current you can safely tackle most MM flooding.
