If you're buying 2nd hand and it's your family's first car, allot 100-150k for repairs.

Go for something that any backyard mechanic can work on and you can find parts for (hindi ka maglalayo just to find parts for your car)

Something not too old na binaboy na ng previous owner(s) yung kotse sa mga backyard repair shops.

Samples: Vios 2nd Gen, City, Corolla 10th Gen, Civic 8th Gen

Also take note of yung ibang costs of owning a car
    Parking
    Gas
    Registration
    Insurance
    Maintenance

My personal opinion, save mga 500K you can freely throw money at the car/related expenses and buy an 8th Gen Civic/10th Gen Corolla for 300K, tapos yung tirang 200K keep it in reserve if you need it for repairs you didn't know you needed.

Other option: Bili ka sa certified used ng casa. Slightly more expensive than buying from a 3rd party pero at least you get a car in reasonable shape if you don't know how to check if ok yung car or not.

Sir salamat po sa adive, honestly mahirap ang 500k na target for me and baka nga never in my lifetime na makahawak ako ng ganyang halaga haha.

As much as possible ayaw ko din kumuha ng hulugan kasi pag nawalan ako ng trabaho wala iba sasalo breadwinner kasi ako and ako saken umaasa even parents ko kaya mabigat saken ang mag monthly.

Thanks sa headsup sa other cost of owning a car, ill keep those in mind

Try to get a 1st gen vios kung kaya. Dali irepair, madami rin marunong gawin. Stay away froem ex taxi.

For getz, try mo kung may diesel variant. Tipid nun.

Realistically, with the budet of 150k, mukhang big body or love life corolla pasok. Plus 50k for the repairs.

For me, Pasok is ung Toyota Corolla as long as di needed ng madaming repairs. Try to look for other options na you can look into. Baka meron kayong kapit bahay or kakilala na selling 2nd hand cars. This is to avoid getting scammed. Hehehe. Mejo risky.

Look for car na not too old and well maintain para less repair.

    Hope it helps :D

Thank you sir sa tips. Pano ko malalaman kung ex taxi? Sasabihin ba yun ng buyer?

I plan on sticking with either getz or i10 mas prefer ko kasi talaga compact car kesa sa sedan

Hi Exekiel, I'm amazed on your humbleness admitting your situation. Back to topic. Your choices are good as they can fit to your garage. Try to check also the following: 1st gen Kia Picanto, Suzuki Alto, Toyota Echo, Toyota Yaris. Personally I would go for either the Echo or the Yaris. Then next would be the Getz or Picanto. I tried the Suzuki Alto and its very economical, aircon is good, downside is the very small body, which tend to sway during highway runs especially beside buses and trucks. Though if you stay at 80kph max, pwede na din. Just make sure to at least bring with you a trusted mechanic during inspections.

    Goodluck chief!

Ber months for sure marame low down payment for car companies lalo quoquota mga yan.

2 cents personally try get a sub compact. low down payment and tipid sa gas: Mirage or vios. but much mura ang mirage and personally my mirage ako super tipid.

if mag 2nd hand ka naman advice ko get a "pangpamilya" tsikot like revo, adventure or xwind. ^___^

2 things you can look at

Toyota Vios/Corolla - since maganda talaga resale value nila, medyo luma na makikita mo

    Thank you sir.

    Paghandaan ko din yan maintenance.
Mukang need talaga ng budget for it.

Yes sir, will do.

Medyo mahal kasi sir ang mirage parang pinaka murang nakita ko ay 350k, medyo out of budget and would probably take me another year or two para dagdagan ung ipon ko for it.

As for the other cars you mentioned medyo malaki kasi sila and hindi kakasya sa garahe namen, pang tricycle lng kasi un and based on my estimate compact car lang kasya and also medyo minimalist ako, attracted ako sa mga simple at small footprint cars.

    Thanks sa input nyo sir

Since nasabi na halos lahat yung mga puwede mong pagpilian, to add nalang siguro is try mo lang maghanap ng relative or family friend na may plano mag benta ng kotse nila. Then malay mo maibigay sayo ng lower price compared sa market value and kilala mo pa sino yung gumamit. Was able to buy an 01 altis from a family friend at 150k three years ago.. wala naman naging problema until two years later. But expected na yun sa mga old vehicles. So wag din kalimutan mag allot ng budget for possible repairs. Good luck and happy hunting sir.

first of all... welcome to tsikot!

    - while on car hunting mode, magpaturo ka ng mag drive para at least you are ready when the time comes
    - measure your garage floor clear area and put an ample allowance (para sa harap at likod kung pwede)
    - after measurement of your garage, you can now start to choose which car is nice to comfortably fit your garage space (mahirap na baka ang recommendation dito ay di pasok o di kasya sa garahe mo)
    - for 2nd hand cars, expect repair expenses to be incurred
    - you should factor in the other expenses in car ownership like gas, parking, pms, tolls, insurance, etc
    - tama ka, ang mobility ng meron sariling sasakyan ay mas maganda kaysa commute ka lang pero may kaakibat na additional dent on your pocket.

    good luck bro!

I think that was a good advice.

I will do this pag makuha ko sukat ng sasakyan na target ko.

Baligtad bro.

measure your garage's dimensions, and keep them with you.
bring a measuring instrument when you go to see your prospective cars, and compare your garage's measurements with the cars' .
cross out from your list, the cars that barely fit.
remember po, that when you car's door opens, it will need considerable space, if you want to enter or leave the car. my personal minimum is 1 meter.
and don't forget the right side of the car. add a foot or two to the total width.
