considering that car's in the 50k pesos and below price are typically useless junk..

and as you get higher the lesser the risk of buying a lemon..

although we could say that used cars are used cars, whether you bought the car at a price of 400k .. it is still a used car and the risk of getting a car with issues is still probability..

so what is a safe price for buying a 2nd hand car? where the risk and price meet near the middle..

Pa-estimate mo sa mga casa. Or pacheck mo kung may ibang sira (syempre kasama owner) then magmeet kayo sa price na LESS ung mga sira if di na nya ipagawa.

walang safe amount na masasabi..kasi pag ni road test mo yan oks naman pero aftr a few months baka abutin na sa iyo pagpalit ng parts eh di gagastos ka na...para mas safe hindi sa price eh dapat kilala mo yung me ari at alam mo kung paano nya alagaan yung car and get higher model kung kaya ng budget

does it mean one could buy a really good condition, nothing to fix car say 15 year old car at a price of 100k? and there is also a chance that you could buy a newer car with lots of issues for a price of 300k?

i'm actually looking for a safe amount or baseline when buying a used car, like other people would only consider buying car which are newer than 10 years..

Follow your intuition lang.

In my experience, bought second hand car at 400k which is actually in exellent condition. Physically inspected the engine, drive train and final drives and everything was in good shape (competent enough to inspect, been involved as a fleet engr where i manage hundreds of equipments). After two months of infrequent use, problems came out. Burst steering pump hose, ac compressor breaks down dat cost me 20k+ and replaced front shocks. Defects will just come out no matter how good is your ride but preventive maintenance will help a lot.

Best move is to alot 10k-20k budget for repairs. Around 30k if walang alam sa oto at walang kasamang mekaniko nung binili ang oto.

Budget for total suspension repair - 15k lahat palit (get one with minimal thugs and squeeks para around 5k-ish lang)
    AC - 5k
    Alternator - 2k
Paint - Depends on quality and size of car - 20k starting(get a car without body problems)
    Cooling system - 5k
Engine - dont get a car with a busted engine
Electrical - veer away from a car with f-ckd up electricals

Basta ganito lang yan, target car = market value + 10k - 20k repairs = Total budget

Walang safe amount kasi dumedepende yan sa year, mileage, brand ng sasakyan. Good example nissan at toyota low resale value ang nissan kahit nasa tip top condition pa yan compared sa resale value ng toyota.

+30K budget nung bumili ako nagpalit kasi ako ng apat na gulong, rear leftside bearing, freon, change oil, gear oil, wheel alignment, wheel balancing + accessories.

agree ako sa nagsuggest ng may buffer funds ka for repair ehhehe kahit d pa ako nakabili its the most logical thing to do kasi and yun din ang pinaplano ko

kaya and MAJORS ko sa checklist ko ganto.. the rest sa mahabang inspection na pagusapan

    1. trusted mekanik
    2. buffer funds
    3. pagkakuha pasok kagad sa casa for a fullcheckup/tuneup!

    peace out :D

Mali yan mas mapapalaki gastos mo sa casa kasi kung wala kang alam sa sasakyan palit dito, palit don ang gagawin kahit hindi pa sira. Let your trusted mekaniko do the work.

the safest is to buy the newest model your budget will allow.

based on your answers, does it mean that a budget of less than 100k is no different from someone who has a budget of 300-400k? and that the risk of buying a lemon or repair expense is typically the same in both price range?

obviously meron difference how big your budget is. the bigger the budget the newer model you can afford. the newer the car means mas mataas chance na hindi agad malaki gastos mo for repairs.

yun din nga tanong ko.. what 'exact' amount or range of amount should you pay for a car to get good chances that what you are buying is trouble free and less maintenance expense..

how big should the amount be? i read here someone who bought a car for 400k yet still get trouble having it repaired for 25k after a month

no set amount -- you can get a good late 80s/early 90s Benz or BMW for a typically 3-6 year old Japanese 4 banger-- it depends on your cash flow and your fastidiousness regarding automobiles
