    ever wondered what happens to an Acura RSX-S engine when the driver mis-shifts from 5th to 2nd at near-redline? a picture is worth a thousand words, a whole slew of pictures is worth a novel! the engine is literally in pieces!

    huge pictures, but well worth the time it takes to load all of them 8O

    ahhh, kung may protection lang sana ang tranny ng Acura para wag hayaang mag shift sa 2nd from 5th ang RSX, wala sanang ogagz na magkamali ng shift :mrgreen:

    blown engine, well known sa RSX-S, ganda naman kse ng shifting, close na close. 8)

    lupit nyan a. kung balak niya mag-6th gear ng naka-redline sa 5th, ang layo ng napasukan nya.


    Di ba ang mga tranny na may synchromesh, may protection against this? yung lancer namin, nasa 4000rpm lang ako sa isang gear, di ko na maipasok sa lower gear. pag mga 3000rpm, tsaka lang pumapasok sa shift gate.

    kevinp, triple synchro on 1 and 2 then double synchros ang 3-6th. Super close lang talaga ang gears when shifting. Its supposedly good and an advantage pero ang ibang owners eh inexperienced sa ganitong tranny. then yung ganyang sitwasyon na nalulusaw ultimong forged pistons eh nasa 5th gear na, 7,000 rpm down-shift pa sa 3rd. bottom line, inexperienced driver daw

    now, how about the fuel cut-off when you hit the rev-limiter???
    The rev limiter only comes into effect when accelerating, not decelerating. No fuel is being used on zero throttle downshifts. Physics regulates downshifts, not the computer

    balak niyang mag downshift from 5th to 4th, not upshift to 6th... syncros prevent gear grinding during shifting due to the different speeds the two gears are spinning at, they won't save you from blowing up your engine due to an overrev... and as karding has noted, rev limiters won't be of any help here too.

    dapat nga siguro mga kotse na ganito (RSX-S, celica GTS...) merong mechanical lockout yung shifter ng 1st and 2nd gears at least when the car is moving fast and is at high rpm.

    kaya yung WRX ko, hirap na hirap kaming pumunta ng 1st from 2nd while running 15mph 8O kailangan complete stop. minsan nakakabugnot pero kapag may naririnig akong mis-shift like RSX-S, pasalamat na din ako :mrgreen: sayang yung mga blown engine ng RSX-S, sarap pa naman i-kambyo nun 8)

    i read that part too in the thread. It doesn't make sense kaya naisip ko baka mag-upshift na siya and na-misinterpret lang nung friend nya kasi sabi 7k na raw ang revs in 5th. e if he wanted to downshift, 4th gear man or second gear doesn't matter kasi he would've blown the engine in both cases.
