    Hi there,

-Test it on a constant inclined but not necessarily uphill road. Say, something like in C5 Rosario flyover, long enough and steady inclined. A sliding tranny will decrease speed almost up to a point that the car will halt.

-Check the ATF also, it must be reddish in color, should not smell burnt and adequately viscous.

-Be observant of the transmission response when engaging from "R" to "D" and vice versa.
Some tranny lags when R is selected from D or from D to R and then sometimes jerks when it realizes that it already lags in response. Not a good sign.

-Check if the 'OD' functions well. You may need this for proper overtaking or going over steep inclines.

    -95-97 Sentras fit your budget.
should return with 6-7-8km/l within city driving.

i have a nissan sentra na matic na 96 model.
matatag ang AT ng nissan, pero depende sa maintenance ng previous owner, dapat properly maintained and regularly changed ang tranny oil.

Based on my experience. Matatag naman sya. I acquired a seriously beaten B13 na halos wala na ATF.

Boss, IMHO look for a car that is close to stock as possible (original). And properly taken cared of. If you can request the seller to provide service receipts, or a dealer stamped service booklet, then that's a good step forward into buying a well maintained car. Do not be swayed into buying cars that are "fully loaded" with useless accessories. You are just throwing away good money, AND buying some one else's junk.

Face it, do you really want a "glittering" car?

    My 2 cents.

Correct. On old cars, I really prefer stock. Dun ko nasusukat ang pag-aalaga ng previous owner/s.

best way to check an auto tranny is in the morning, and the car is cold (ie. have not started overnight).
Start mo tapos apak sa brakes tapos engage mo kagad from park to D, then release the brakes slowly, dapat kumagat kagad yung transmission, pag may delay, kahit 1 second lang, pasira na yun. This would not work if the car is already hot and have been running for a while.
