Hi! I'm planning to buy my first car (as a college student) and I'm currently looking for a nice daily driver.
I set my eyes on a Civic EG Hatch and I'm wondering if its still worth to buy one in 2020?

My titos are recommending to buy the Civic FD instead but It's out of my budget of around 150k

Please recommend me any other good cars for daily driving with a budget of around 150k. Thanks!

Even if you get an EG for 150k, do you have another 50k or so to spend on repairs? You're getting a 24-year old car. It's definitely gonna need repairs. It's even older than you.

If you're looking for a pristine EG hatch, it definitely won't sell for 150k.

I'd suggest to just save more money and get a newer car for around 200-250k.

Yung lovelife Corolla Altis 98, 99, 01 goes for peanuts na these days. Swak sa budget mo. Massively reliable (I used to own one) and with proper maintenance will last you until it bores you, or you settle down.

Dami ko nakikita na naka porma nito. Some have EU specced bodywork and slammed 2 inches down, they look great.

Also, yung mga EK mura na rin.

Sa EG you have to change the engine pa to get performance (to D15B last time I checked), from the anemic PH12 stock. EKs come 1.5L and 1.6L na agad, much shorter gap to achieve power.

EG and EK? Kung di pa.nabody repair yan, malamang may bulutong ng kalawang yan sa bubong. Ubos budget mo agad iparepair yun.

Agree get a corolla or a vios

Roof bows of those cars in those days were spot-welded, not glued, onto the roof sheetmetal. This is the reason why rust shows up even on untouched roofs. The SIRs weren't exempted.

For the price of SiR I think mas ok mag FD na lang, just try to find a manual 2.0S. Or get 1.8 model then swap K24 from Acura (mahal kasi ng K20 Type-R).

Yung EG and EK hatchbacks talaga yung wala nang modern replacement.

    if i may,

the SIR is a cult car.
if you are an SIR fan(atic), nothing in the world will stop you from getting one.
but if you are a practical thinker, getting something newer than that 20+ year old design, is the way to go.

also, there's the asking price. perusing olx, they're asking at least 350K for one!
for the price of the asking price of the SIR, you can probably get something much newer and requiring less maintenance.

    would i get one?
"only if have money to burn."
    heh heh.

For a stock one at around 250k, maybe I would get one. For 300k or more, get a Civic FD or anything newer.

Kung may makita kang SiR for 150k, do not buy it if you have no plan to spend at least 300k more. ;) [H] boys can surely relate on this.

As what Dr. D mentioned, it is a cult car, so beware. Warning: Do not visit the PADEK group pages or forums... baka mahawa ka sa virus. [emoji28]

Yes, a pristine and welll restored/maintained SiR could have higher value than an FD.

150k? Get a 6th gen Accord (1998-2002). It drives better than the Civic, with a more powerful engine, plus more interior space. Fuel consumption will be more than the Civic 1.6L but you get a more solid car than any compact or subcompact of the same age.

My old daily driver was an Accord 2001 and it served me well for more than 3 years after I arrived home from the US.

Kahit gaano pa ka pormado katawan nyan tapos mahina naman yung makina, tawag dyan - all show, no go. As if makadagdag sa power output yung body kits at spoilers. Hehehe

On a different note, a properly modified EK with a sport suspension, a decent engine, fitted exhaust, and intakes will make one sweet driving FWD car.

Oh well, siguro mag-iipon nalang ako para sa FD. Pang daily lang naman, okay na ba K20 or may ibang engine na mas tipid sa gas?

You mentioned in the start of this topic that it will be your first car, tama? Naku, pinagdaanan ko/namin din yan... as a college student, it will be very difficult to stay true na “pang daily lang naman”. Sooner or later, you will crave for more than that, like:
    1. Performance parts/brand sticko (e.g. spoon, trd, ralliart, sparco, etc.)
    2. Club sticko (e.g. PADEK, grupo, mlph, etc.)
    3. Shop sticko (e.g. H3 autoworks, candyshop, clifford, etc.)
    4. And some more sticko (e.g. nuffsaid, tanginamo, safe, etc).
    5. Then you will realize sticko doesn’t add “that much” hp to your car.
    6. Then. you will try to start to learn the basic of ICE.
    7. On the side, someone will introduce to you the ported/sealed box, the SP/SQ, the “gapang”, the 12 inches, the 1-2-3-4 ch, etc.
    8. Then the stance and the wide wheels
8.1. The car shows, and syempre the mowdels.
    9. Then come the track day, and you’ll realize that all of the above (except for #6) doesn’t help making your car run fast.
    9. The. you’ll be serious about the real hp and the engine transplant, the coil overs, etc.
    10. Then start ka ulit ng topic sa tsikot: first project car.
    11. Then you’ll sell your FD to get an EK/EG.

Hahahaha! So, gets mo na? Just stick with the original plan... kung ano yung napusuan mo sa umpisa, push na agad! Promise, dun ka din papunta.

Nga pala, walang kasamang chicks jan sa taas ah. Bahala ka na kung saang stage mo gusto isingit. Additional budget kasi yun. [emoji4]

Mas nakagulo ba sa decision making? Hehe!

    get an 86.
it may not be fast, but it looks good, and it will surely attract the goils... and the gang.
also, it's too small and you won't evolve into the barkada schoolbus.
