If you want a commuter car with decent features and good interior space that can get you from point A to B, the Geely Emgrand Premium is hard to beat at 908k.
Other subcompacts are over 1M these days. For that price, I would just get a Coolray.

Not too long ago the compact SUV was a lifestyle vehicle and everyone else was running around in sedans. Nowadays, at least above the 1M price range, bumaliktad na ang trend and the sedan is now the lifestyle vehicle. Kaya for me iba pa rin ang dating ng sedan because at a similar price the owner could've gotten the more common (and practical) compact SUV.
Kasalanan na ng Toyota that they made the Corolla and Camry look like the Vios![]()
I understand the lifestyle vehicle part which is why I still keep a sedan. But it has to be a sedan that can offer something my SUV or a subcompact cannot. In my case it’s performance and luxury.
Not all compact sedans can outperform or have more comfortable ride quality than a CUV, so it’s no wonder they’re becoming more and more irrelevant in this day and age with the bad roads of the Philippines.

Sedans on the road are mostly limited to economy cars (Vios, City) or luxury cars (BMW, Mercs). However there are people who prefer driving sedans, including myself since I prefer the visibility and size. I'm targeting a sedan again since I have no immediate plans to start a family anyway.
As jut said, its easier to go faster when using a CUV. I don't slow down for obstacles when I use my sister's Forester. I also don't clog up parking lots by taking parking ramps very slowly.
If you really want a nice sedan, go for it.
Since I was a kid, I wanted to have my own car. You know, the need for speed underground era..
To answer your question, for my first car shopping, I am prioritizing ride comfort more than practicality. Siguro gusto ko lang maka experience ng sedan since puro SUV and pick up ang nadrive ko. I just want to stay away from the matagtag and bulky feeling. Since more on city driving lang naman, I think sedan is a good choice. Best in comfort and also less gas consumption compared to CUV/SUV.
If I wanted more practicality than comfort, I am actually considering the HR-V that will be released here in the Philippines on April 19 priced at 1.3m for the base variant with lots of features too. I think the base HR-V is better priced compared to the barebone base Corolla Cross.

Ride comfort of my CRV is far better than my Civic that it replaced. The Civic looks nicer yes pero in the eyes of 99% of people, mas mukhang mahal yung CRV (they cost the same in the secondhand market). The Civic also has better handling but you can only really maximize it on the track. In any public road, crossovers can keep up and even go faster than sedans because you don’t have to worry about road imperfections.
In any case, looks like you’re decided with a sedan anyway, so go spend your 1.3M on that Altis or whatever your heart tells you

You have a point. Naisip ko lang naman yung handling dahil sa mga long road trips which in case, occasional lang. Yung driving ko lang din is pang chill ride lang, not a race driver.
Not really 100% decided pa talaga. Everyday iniisip ko kung okay na ba talaga ako sa pipiliin ko, and at the end of the day, ayaw kong magsisi.
Very thankful talaga ako sa mga thoughts niyong lahat mga tsikoteer [emoji16]

If I may ask, why own 2 crossovers? Don't you want other platform like a sedan or SUV?
Oof. Then atleast to slighty feel the dream car which is a sedan based. [emoji2957]

The ASX presented itself as an opportunity so we took it. It drives more like a compact car really but with a bit better ground clearance. The Forester XT is a very capable platform - AWD, ground clearance like PPVs, big cargo area, comfortable ride, lots of performance (much more sportiness than other vehicles calling themselves SUVs).

I drive two crossovers mostly. The ASX is about the size of the last generation Lancer. Its 2.0L engine is more than enough in terms of performance, better than most compact sedans except for those with turbo engines or 2.0L NA engine (Civic RS, Mazda3 2.0, Focus Ecoboost, Golf/Jetta 1.4T). The other crossover is the Forester XT. It is big for a CUV but it is nimble and very quick for its size. It is not the usual CUV, I tell you.
However, I am looking to get myself a toy sedan - something performance oriented or a quick yet comfortable highway cruiser. The wife is also planning on getting a compact car to replace the ASX within a year or two. Altis or Civic might be the choices in mind but she will get a Camry if that fits her needs.

Saw this quick preview and also the Altis' pricing on all the trim levels. Not sure if accurate though. Sila pa lang nag popost ng price for March 2022, kahit toyota wala pang nag shineshare na updated price list nila.

Cars like the Coolray and MG HS both have more space and more power than these entry-level compacts (sans the Civic turbo).
Makes it very hard to recommend a compact at this price point when the subcompact CUVs are far more compelling packages for the typical Filipino buyer.

I followed my heart and mind... So I got a Mazda CX-30 Sport variant. [emoji16] But my savings is not happy at all lol.
It is an old model 2020, but I got it with 150k discount and a free soul red paint. Still with free 5 years PMS. The 2020 and 2022 models does not have any difference in the features.
With tint all around using 3M color stable - I'm impressed with the visibility and privacy. It is my first time driving with a windshield tint.
The second row space is not that cramped for me. I can sit comfortably in my driving position- Coming from a 5'6 guy.
