plan ko po bumili ng 2nd hand car..
kya lang d ko po alam pano..
19y'o plang po ako..
ano po mga things to consider in buying a car?
around 300k po budget..
ano po msusugest nyo mga bossing?
1 month na po ako naghahanap..
yung pwede pang porma^^,
mga 1.6-2.0L na engine para may power..
family car po..
wife and 1 y'o son q lang po sasakay..

Hi Sir and welcome to Tsikot! Medyo nagulat ako sa last part ah. Pero saludo ako sayo, kakaunti nalang ang mga responsible fathers na ganoong edad sa kasalukuyan. God bless you indeed! Ang budget mo ba may kaunting allowance? O strictly 300k lang? Gusto mo ba yung mataas o yung auto lang? Caution lang about 2.0L cars though, if you buy those, better make sure you have sufficient gas money, ang lalakas magpalasing ang mga yun! Kaya kapag 2.0L, better kung manual ang ikuha mo so makakatipid ka, and also get better performance. And as with all 2nd hand cars, always make sure you are getting a good unit before buying and be VERY good at haggling, look for possible places where you can deduct points from the vehicle.

Sa mga matatangkad, there's the 1st gen Honda CRV. This one is a '98 4x4 manual version at 320k neg.

And also the 1st gen Ford Escape. You can get newer models of these as compared to CRVs of the same price. Now I can vouch for the solidity, reliability and toughness of this one as we have an XLT 4x4 A/T at home with the same engine. The M/T should give it some more much needed grunt as ours is rather weak (dumb A/T and more weight penalty due to 4WD). Oh, and the aircon is really, really cool.

Good day sir! Thank you for the suggestions! May konting allowance naman po yung budget ko sir. I like the red ford escape sir. But a friend of mine says to keep away from cars with plate numbers starting with the letters X,K,R,Y. He says these cars were smuggled or converted(or something like that). And he says I could have some problems with the paperworks because some LTO offices do not accept cars with these plate numbers. Do you have any idea about this sir?

X?! No! Plates starting with N, P, T, U, W, X and Z are standard NCR license plates. Those imported or converted vehicles usually bear B (Cagayan), R (Subic) and Y (Cebu) license plates. And since our imports usually come from Japan, and the Escape is an American car, there is no problem with that. The only compact SUVs that I know which bear the aforementioned plates and are also locally available are the CRV, Rav4 and Forester.

Also, be extra careful when encountering cars with prices that are cheaper than the usual price (like that red Escape). There may be possibilities that it is not in good condition, has very high mileage already, has been in a major accident/was Ondoy'd, is a stolen vehicle (make sure the one selling you the vehicle is the one who's name is on the papers, or if not, at least that person should be present during vehicle turnover and show valid identification, and if you want to be really really sure, confirm with the authorities), or just simply a blessing from God. When looking at 2nd hand cars, ALWAYS bring your trusted mechanic.
