I recall the brouhaha over PNoy's 911... even though it was a secondhand car, and honestly costs less than the armored SUVs other Presidents and officials use.

    All about perception.

I was chuckling throughout that post. Honestly, people who are rich and not totally insecure don't give a rat's ass about perception. Ferrari sa McDo? No problem. Mustang sa Jollibee? Hey, when you have the muchies...

Just finished an interview with Ferrari Philippines' head honcho Marc Soong, and he was in a plain black polo, no big name accessories. This is the guy who took a Ferrari FF out to Baler just because.

It's got the power... but it's similar to a kit car... a bit rough to live with on a daily basis.

    The answer is still Miata.

    Or a secondhand 86 with a supercharger.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

If you're really into cars, buy JDM Goodies like the EVO, STI, Silvia, or Skyline. Use the change to improve the car's looks/performance. Make sure to buy a car which is already built.

If you want to be practical, buy an MX5 or GT86.

There are 2 extremes to people who owned sports car and I have to admit I have felt it.

When I had 86, talagang nag-dalwang isip ako pu-mark or even mag-drive thru sa jollibee, And when I go to say a restaurant with front parking, I need to shell out 200 to bribe the guard to let me park in an off-limits parking zone

I am not sure what's the need to be so cautious about parking with something priced like the common midsize car. In Glorieta or BGC, I have seen folks parking their BMW 5-series, Audi A6/A7, and Mercedes E-Class the same way like most people do. These cars are more than 2x the price of the cars discussed here. Heck, there are even more expensive cars in the PSE Tower 1 parking area that are mixed with the usual Japanese and Korean vehicles.

Wow. 200 tip parking fee. Hehe.

Nope. That's what the truly rich are like. They don't give a **** what people think. They buy Ferraris because they enjoy driving them. Not because they think having one will impress other people.

The Italians are one of the most vain people I know. One of their past time is people watching in the Piazzas. This is an Italian Car, it's meant to be shown off. If he really wants speed, then get the one invented by that Swedish guy. So boring that place Swden, so technical, but fastest.

Kaya nga nila nimbento ferrari red color eh, to show off

When I sold my 86, nakasabay ko sya ulit with my old Santa Fe, tapso yun sa kain sana kami sa Chickboy, ayaw pa din . Mas tinitiis pa ang gutom at umuwi
    -----

Minsan, naawa ako sa kanila imagine carry nila yun everytime yun stigma na kailangan ma VIP treatment sila before going to an event or get together just because they have expensive cars

What a way to live, unnecessary emotional burden talaga tsk tsk tsk

But matagal pa siguro before I get one. I'd like an SUV first, and much of my savings is now allotted for my house and wedding so baka 10th gen na MX5 na mabili ko. [emoji23]

bro, we're poor alright, but we're rich in spirit (well, that is, granting i have one, but it's still debatable ). anyhow, good for you that you're in private. we, public men, have to, no less than the constitution prescribes it, LEAD MODEST LIVES. an mx5 driven by a public servant, though priced like a premium mass produced SUV, will most certainly raise eyebrows, or, worse, it may induce some people to conduct a discreet lifestyle check. nowadays, SUVs (like everest, fortuner, MS, and the like), considering that they sprout in our streets like mushrooms, will not attract much attention as the similarly priced two-seater miata driven by a public employee who can afford it because he earns a six-figure (or 7?) annual salary. and this epiphany holds me back. honestly.

Bro JM, will it clear any suspicion if you declare it in your SALN?

yes, bro, it will. but, it's very clear under the provision on accountability of public officers in the constitution and the provisions of RA6713 (ethical standards of public officials and employees authored by then senator rene saguisag), that public officials and employees and should LEAD MODEST LIVES. and this phrase meant only one thing-- public service is NOT an occasion for ostentatious display of wealth, whether inordinately or not, or unintentionally or not. speaking from experience,
i know two officers, both have 100+M net worth, but have different lifestyle-- one loves hummer and full size SUVs and the other rides a red toyota innova. the former had some problem with the ombudsman; the latter almost became the cpnp. and that was the time when the ombudsman was shackled by pgma. now is different-- the ombudsman is kicking people out of the service left and right.

    OT

there was once a congressman from the highlands of the north who rode a bicycle to congress. for 9 years he did that. however later on there was a rumor, after he retired from the house, that as soon as he was off his government paycheck he bought luxury SUVs left and right and had the biggest house built on that strip of mountain he called home.

    smart no?

Siguro kung may sports car ako, hindi ako lalabas after truck ban hours. Kakatakot kaya tumabi sa mga trailer vans. Feeling ko babagsak un van da akin.
