    hello peeps!

newbie lang po me. just graduated nung feb i was thinking since i have a lot ahead of me magandang investment ang isang car. Plus i can use it to hone my driving skills until the time i can buy my own dream car im not looking for something extravagant or pogi obviously.

    siguro
    ease of maintenance
    fuel economic

siguro ilang specifics na i'm looking for are around or better lesser than 200k
matic i studied manual but i think for convenience nalang unless you want to defend manual diesel for fuel economy and plans to use biodiesel suggestions are welcome pero pls enlightment me nalang

ayon. ano pa baba. wala na akong maisip eh yun lang muna siguro if may ma suggest po kayo please do super newbie tlaga ako e shempre if gagastos ka maslalo na sa mga times ngayon kailangan informed lagi yung decisions mo para hindi lugi dba mga katoto amen!

for the budget, 94 model yan - civic, corola, sentra.

pag second hand i-anticipate mo na marami kang ipaparepair/replace/upgrade, so spare some 20-50k. ur idea of 'ease of maintenance' is not applicable here.

fuel economy -- shempre manual, pero kung ease of use then matic.

get the one with the least fuel consumption.

believe it or not, your biggest cost, year on year, will NOT be parts. it will be fuel.

regarding the kia pride.. yes, it is a generally ratty car. but the parts are dirt-cheap. shocks for 600 pesos! mind-boggling (regular car shocks cost 3000).

yesterday i was thinking of selling my beloved mazda 626 for 100k (i'm thinking of buying a new car and i don't have an extra parking slot). but i love it so much (proposed in it.. how cheesy can you get) and besides i was pissed off at the side-comments of the idiots complaining about the faults of the car which i documented for potential buyers.

yes i was thinking of selling it cheap, precisely because it has issues (which don't affect my using it every day to go to work). what did they expect, cheap and trouble-free?

anyway that's off-topic. don't get a mid-size car like i did. 100k can get you a '94 accord if you look hard enough. but the fuel cost will eat you alive.

my mazda is a mid-size and the parts are expensive. but i end up only spending around 10k - 20k a year on parts and maintenance. but i do spend 80k a year on fuel

care to enlighten about "magandang investment ang isang car."

we are on the same level when it comes to cars, i'm also looking for my first car but i have been working for 10 years now (not a newly grad)..

so far i don't see why cars are a good investment.. considering there are lots of cost involved, fuel, repairs, maintanance, parking, depreciation..

the only reason why i'm buying a car is to practice my driving skills.. learning and honing a skill is an investment for me..

so why did you say "magandang investment ang isang car."?

when almost everyone will say "pag nagkotse ka puro gastos, para kang may pinapa college"

I've been working for (almost) 10 years as well.

A car is one of the worst money sinks you can get into, it's not an investment at all.

The only things going for you with a car, which actually have some investment-like value, are:

    - greatly increased safety over the scary FX and late-night taxi rides
    - it makes you more upwardly mobile, career-wise

For me the safety is a huge thing. But then again, if that's all you're after, the cheapest reliable car (like a well-fixed-up Kia Pride) will do. Won't help with the upward mobility thing though..

Have to add.. cars are emotional. That's why we end up getting/buying more than we can afford. If transportation is all you want, then a Kia Pride (used) or a Hyundai Getz (new) is perfect, and friendly for the environment too. But you don't see that many of these. Emotion gets into the equation and that translates into more money in the pit!!

Regarding the 80k fuel consumption.. here's how it goes.

Let's say you drive 30km per day, 6 days a week. So that's 180km a week or 9360km a year. Mababa na yan, most people put more than 10k km on their car each year.

If your car does 6km/L (old midsize car, or perhaps a CR-V) then 9360km/year is 1560 liters of fuel. That's 60K worth.

If your car is a Kia Pride or a Honda Jazz and does 12km/L you only spend 30K/year on fuel. That adds up. But it's still way cheaper than what you'd spend on maintenance.

    investment na naisip ko
    - convenience pag may long travels (sa work naman di ko gamitin kasi ayon sa kadas ko mas magastos daw hehe sa makati lang naman ako e)
    - instant control in mobility. i mean hindi ka restricted sa mrt/lrt i mean kaya nga tayo nagwowork para magkapera kasi para magingconvenient ang life natin e and in this case in travelling... kinda makes you think bakit nga ba may kotse dba :D
    - and yes honing my driving skill rin kasi i believe someday magkakapera ren ako to buy my own dream car o dba its a pinoy tsikoteer's dream
    - and lastly to learn. im buying because i want to learn how to handle a car, to find one na magugustuhan ko plus learn the responsibility to handle and care for it. its 200k lang kasi i don't wanna use my parents money gusto ko sakin lang kumbaga self challenge ko na to.
    - lastly bro you only live once naman e ienjoy mo narin ung experience magkakotse dba? wala lang. peace!

i wont say naman na hindi emotional ang cars. kasi unang una aside sa gagastos ka ng malaking pera its something you own kasi e so shempre you'd look for sometheing that suits you(kahit na next best thing dahil sa budget restrictions) kasi aside from it get you from point a to point b it represents you narin dahil sa hirap na dinanas mo looking for it(car hunting grabe!) then after taking care it through constant maintenance. parang pagibig lang yan bro. YEAH RYT HAHA peace

and yes agree ako na money sinkhole nga yung kotse. pero i think every power handed to you comes with the price of responsibility. shempre spidey fan ako. haha.

pero ayon nga. plus kaya nga im here sa tsikot bro kasi i want to sponge up all the things i need to learn from you guys kasi kayo yung experienced kayo yung nag sacrifice ng pera to get that sinkhole and take care of it dba ;) pusta ko naman masaya kayo sa cars nyo dahil til now nasa tsikot kayo supporting the forums e. ako dadaanan ko palang yan.

    Hello! Graduate Congrats!

Last year I graduate 2006 High School from San Beda. My parents brought me a CRV 98 it well fuel economy. As economy is speaking you choose Civic EK.

    Pajero Gen 1 Sir...

Diesel, low maintenance, diesel is cheaper than gas, you can make your own veggie fuel if you really wanna save, its capable of carrying 7-8 passengers and it has 4wd for security in fording floods.

13 years old na nga pero dami pa parts nito, you are confident with 4D56's proven reliability and its fuel economy can still go 10-12km/ liter.

    under 200K-->my recomendations->

1994-96 mazda astina, 1996-198323-familia(gen 2 body. get the manual tranny kung gusto mo matipid sa fuel.)mura piyesa nyan at may bilihan din.

if you can fit a gen.1 pajero(boxy type body), ok na ok yan...eto recommend ko parin-> pambaha, pang-everyday, reliable and parts-easy 4d56-turbo diesel... space at siyempre, iba parin ang dating na naka-pajero ka...

pero kung di ka maarte sa ride, practical choices are these(for me):

1.kia pride-> under 100K makakakuha ka ng nothing to fix na! kaya daming mong sukli! and basically, kahit sinong mekaniko alam gawain yan

5.besta/L300 versa van-->if you dont mind something bigger, diesel power at can haul 10-12 passengers cofortably, cargo wise is plus ulit, pwede mo pang pang-sideline kung sakali..

old kia is mazda also. and 1999 below mazdas here are easy to find na ang spare-->autorama in banawe carries complete line of parts.. notion lang po yan..kahit anong brand basta 5-year-old below palang ang body/model di ka basta basta makakakuha ng parts sa labas..

for me... I'd go for Civic EK. additional 20-40k though.

or those small Nissans (parang small euro type) from cebu. costs 150-180K

if not too confident sa parts then Corolla...
