Hi guys, I'm looking for suggestions for buying a 2nd hand car for my first car.
Conditions are.
1. It should be A/T
2. Handling.
3. PMS cost.
My Top picks are.
1. Toyota VIOS 1.3E A/T
2. Honda City
3. Ford Focus
4. Honda Jazz
TIA

I'd go with the Jazz. Ticks all your boxes. It has better cargo flexibility than the City and is easier to park. Performance is also very good, and it doesn't feel cheap at all. Honda PMS is done every 10tkms rather than the usual 5tkms interval, if I'm not mistaken.

the jazz is nice but do you really need that flexible rear on a daily ? the city offers more boot volume. and when a something crashes onto your rear the city offers more distance...

^Of course there's also the prestige of driving a car of a higher ranking. You do have to contend with higher fuel consumption though, since the FD comes with a 1.8.
1.6L Altis is an excellent alternative to 1.5L subcompacts since fuel consumption is almost the same and yet has the space and added prestige of a compact sedan.

With 450k the TS can already get the post facelift version, up to 2014 model even, according to Olx. Current gen model is still firmly entrenched in the 500s.
Really like the Altis's timeless design though. Kinda like a mini-Camry.

From the list and chosen criteria, it has to be the Jazz. But at such a budget, I would get a used late model Civic FD (2009-2011) instead. Maintenance between the Civic and City/Jazz is not much different anyway. You may give up a 1 kilometer per liter in fuel efficiency but you have a bigger and faster car.
If handling is a key criteria, the Focus is a much better and more responsive drive than a Jazz or City or Vios. The Focus TDCi (turbo diesel, 2007-2008 MT or 2009-2011 6PS AT) is a good car and thrift on fuel but maintenance is not like a Honda or Toyota. The previous generation Focus (2012-2016) has a low resale value despite being a feature-packed car and offers good handling and a potent 2.0L engine but the DCT is prone to issues.
Whatever works for you. If getting a used FD automatic, make sure the tranny is in good condition.
If getting an MT, opt for the 2.0L model as it is a rare one. I think only around 200 or so Civic FD 2.0L MT were sold in the country. These were released back in 2006-2008. The MT option for the 2.0L model is not available anymore starting 2009.

^Honestly for city driving, I'd have to go for the automatic. Modern Honda automatics are very good. They also hold up well with extra power if you opt to modify the
car

+1 on this. The newer Honda automatics are much better than those used in the turn of the century models (Civic EK/ES and Accord 6th gen).
If gas expense is not much of a concern, a used 8th gen Accord 2.4L is a good option for a budget of 450k. It is spacious and comfortable, quick and fast, and handles very well for its size (drives much better than a City, Jazz, or Civic).
^Agree. But the 8th gen Accord is very big... Bigger than even the current gen. Just a shade below 5 meters if I'm not mistaken. If I we're to drive a car of that size, I'd rather go for something with 3 rows and higher ground clearance.

Thanks for the inputs mga sir. Now my choices are narrowed down to either City 1.5E or a Civic that will fit my budget. =)
Question is what year model will I avoid, is there any? thanks.
Yep, the 8th gen Accord is the biggest across all generations. A PPV or MPV or CUV might be more practical but it will never drive as good or as comfortable or as quick as an Accord.
The previous generation City/Jazz (2009-2013) shares the same engine as the new one (2014-current) but uses the older 5-speed AT. It is fuel efficient but a bore to drive. A Civic FD (2009-2011) of the same age is a better option overall.
go for the smaller engine... look at the gas prices😅
fun to drive your wallet?
