In Singapore, a car's COE is valid for only 5 years, can be extended to a max 10 years.

So Toyota and BYD are both unusable (not unless granted another extension - case by case basis) after 10 years.

BYD overtakes Toyota, Tesla as Singapore’s top car brand in 2024; Singapore’s favourite Chinese New Year traditions, revealed: Singapore live news | Yahoo! News

BYD reached 6,191 units sold, surpassing Toyota's 5,736 cars.

Xpander is selling well - kahit na 4A/T sya (tayo na lang ata ang market na may ganitong tranny)
Livina - previous Gen Xpander without the cruise control
Ford - yes, since inabutan pa natin yung Cortina and Laser (yung iba dito pati Escort inabutan)

    etc
Oo. Pero ibig kong sabihin sa mga ka-segment niya, mas bago pa yung avanza, veloz pati stargazer. Sa discount nga siguro bumabawi kaya tumatapat parin.

a colleague was deciding between xpander and innova, and MG.
of course i put in my inputs.
"for some reason i have yet to discover, xpander ang pinili niya."
    ... final price and japanese...?

If it is not classified/registered as a commercial vehicle w/ statutory lifespans (e.g hilux, hiace) you can technically keep the car indefinitely by renewing in 10 year intervals. Extending the COE by only 5 years requires scrapping or exporting the vehicle after the 5 year extension expires. Extending beyond twenty years is probably limited to someone really attached to their vehicle or a model that is popular with enthusiasts.

oo nga pala. 10 years validity ng COE. then it can be extended.

pero my point is that in a market na 10 years lang magagamit yung car and halos wala ka nang aasahan na value after 10 years. they can take the risk in buying the best and most expensive car they can afford.

dito kasi sa atin pati resale value ng car iniisip natin in making the purchase.

Kaya you always end up not buying what you really desire.

    agree.

kadadating lang ng officemate ko with her new Raize.

Kaya kinain mostly ng affordaboys na MPV segment such as Xpander, Avanza, Veloz, Stargazer.

If you think at the time na naging top 10 tong mga units na to, si Xpander lang ata yung 7 seater na affordaboys at that time (2019 ba yon?).
I think kabilang din sa top 10 yung Innova at that time?

Lately lang tong Avanza, Veloz, Stargazer nagsulpotan.
It just shows that hindi Diesel hanap ng buyers ng segment na to kundi yung 7 seater configuration ng car.
Also sa price din, halos 2m na price ng SUV Diesel di sa MPV nalang if usecase is sa city driving lang.

Pag diesel hinahanap ng iba, kung hindi innova, mas pinipili na nila mga pickups. For a little more than 1m lang dahil malayo din ang agwat sa srp vs. entry-level suvs.

Ni lift-up na nila incentive ng pick-ups.
I think nag start siya last 2023 ata yun.
Included na pickup sa TRAIN Law for the reason that they observed that purchases made were for lifestyle use, not for business.

Pero malaki parin yung inundercut nila sa mga suv/ppvs na usually nasa 1.6m or above ang starting range. Tsaka sila rin daw pinakamatagal mag-depreciate sa mga klase ng oto.

    True.

I don't know if the new Tamaraw will be TRAIN-exempt (single-cab chassis), because I already see many videos of 'lifestyle' mods being done on them.

i think it will remain in the exempt list. single cab lang kasi. hindi papayag ang barkada na umupo sa matagtag na likuran na parang paso...

Eto yung strong incentive ng pickup.

I remember Hilux 2010 MT black color, was acquired by my sister in-law around 2014 or 2013 ata yun from a friend, pinasalo from Bank + Honda Fit trade-in, hehehe.
Manual variant pa to ha, nabenta pa nila ng at least 1M after 7+ yrs (around 2017 nabenta).
