    Hi guys,

I just want to ask if kei cars (not those "multi-cab" ones) are available here in the philippines. i've seen some of them in the metropolis.

I want to have one of those because,

    1. It is very economical (660cc and 22km/l)
    2. It is small and compact (3.4m x 1.48m x 2m)
    3. JDM Yo!

But i've some questions that's been bothering me about buying one of these on second-hand shops. i know there are no "brand new" keicars here.

What are the pros/cons of having a keicar here in the philippines?
What do i need to know about buying second hand kei cars?
    Conversion?
    Spare Parts?
    Common Brand?
    Where to Buy?
    Any more info.

    Thanks in advance.

Alto is a brand new (although tecnically old) kei car you can buy here.

Officially, maximum displacement for kei cars is 660cc so the Alto, at 800cc, is not one.

The Alto is technically not a Kei car because it's over 600cc... the Celerio is slightly too big.

But since the higher tax in registration occurs only with much much larger engines, there's no real need to go much smaller. The Alto and Celerio can hit over 20 km/l on the highway and up to 30+ if you practice "eco-driving".

When we tested the Alto, it averaged 15-17 km/l in the city (though admittedly, not in heavy traffic).

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

my Alto averages 10-11km/l on city driving.

very hard city driving (jack rabbit starts and driving fast). with eco driving, 12-15km/l on city driving.

with a fuel efficient car, mawiwili kang mag-drive with your full potential without hurting your wallet kapag magpapa-gas.

Hahaha... The peeps I know with the hyper-efficient first-generation Jazz loved doing long, fast drives. One guy who went to BRC with us drove balls out all the way there, did a lot of laps on track (the Tuason Racing instructors borrowed his car for a few more... this was when the Jazz first came out), the drove balls out back to Taft. 14-15 km/l pa rin.

    Kei cars?

There are quite a few I see puttering about:
    - Mitsubishi Pajero Mini XR-II/VR-II turbo
    - Suzuki Wagon R/Wagon R+
    - Older versions of the Suzuki Alto
    - Suzuki Cappuccino (VERY RARE!)

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking of getting one of these model kei cars.

What model are these and are they available here?

I know converted na sila pero what do i need to check if safe ung pagkagawa ng conversion?

i was thinking of getting the suzuki alto/celerio pero hindi pasok sa keicar category yung binibenta ng suzuki eh.

ika nga, nothing hinders you from driving fast (or what you call your "over" the normal driving) hehe.

I remembered when I drove a Cefiro V6 2.4, basta talagang matulin and really a beast in acceleration, pero ang 500 pesos gas ko hmmm, sobrang parang wala akong narating. sorry OT.

Suzuki Wagon R, around 180-260k. mga 1998 model po ang range na iyon. try looking sa sulit. when buying, get as much as possible a Manila plate car.

Thanks sa replies. I'll check sulit for that. Meron rin ba niyan sa cavite? since sobrang layo sa subic eh hehehe..

Also, tanong ko rin kung meron mga keivan/microvans like these dito sa philippines? i recall meron akong nakita isa nito dumaan sa coastal.
