IMO, a Ford Escape is a better proposition for a same class of vehicle for that amount of money and for about the same age. Get the 2.3 variant.

FAIR is relative. It depends on how badly you want it.

For me, neigh..if you consider the then almost 1.2M Escape selling now at less than 600 thousand and compare that to the 800+ thousand 2.0 Tucson in 2005, di ba mahal? And to think the Escape is a better vehicle.

The gas Tucson is not much of a ballyhoed car either. Only a few ones get sold. Maintenance would be problem in the long as third-party suppliers would not be that many as it is not a popular acquisition.

Practical? What do you think?

BTW, take a look at the classifieds (Buy and Sell, if I am not mistaken), there is a gas Tucson selling at 500++T if you are really bent on the Tuc.

I always ask 3 people when evaluating the purchase price of a 2nd hand vehicle:

1. a trusted mechanic (or if you can, ask the help of a service advisor from HARI);
2. my insurance broker (to get their insurance company's appraisal for the make and model of the vehicle); and
3. the bank manager of my bank.

Their opinions will give me all the information I need on the mechanical soundness and roadworthiness of the vehicle, its fair market value based on the insurance company's replacement cost and my ability to borrow or finance the purchase.

To answer the TS's question, haggle it down some more since you'll find similarly-priced alternatives from the Japanese manufacturers.
