new driver/owner po pala ako kung sakali, plan to enroll in a driving school this sept.
family of 3. for office service sana namin ng wife ko, weekend pang gala and once a month going to the province (lipa).

    car1
    1996 lancer EL.
    M/T
    45k mileage
    upgrade 16" rims, color red
    95k price
2nd owner. mukang alaga. makinis, walang mga bulok nung una ko pa makita hangang ngayon. seldom use.

    car2
    1996 civic vti
    A/T
    unknown mileage
    all stock
    150k price

assuming good condition na lahat ngayon.
    thanks!

Taxi spec yung Lancer EL with no power amenities and a 1.3L carburetor engine. I definitely wouldn't get one of those. But then given that it only has 45tkms mileage, if you like it and are sure that it is in good condition, then why not. You may find it lacking in power though, if you intend to take it out of town, especially if it entails climbing.

The Civic VTi is obviously the better car between the two. But then since it is matic and seventeen years old, I'd take caution. If it wasn't well taken cared of, it may not be long before you'd have to do a transmission replacement. Not to mention Honda matics in the 90s weren't really known for durability. Gas mileage would also be inferior to a Lancer EL, considering that both are in good condition.

With at least 150k budget, I'd suggest you look for a Sentra instead. A newer, manual unit preferably with the 1.6L engine.

Emphasize ko lang that the Lancer EL does not have power steering. Pwede pa-convert pero medyo mahal. On the plus side onti lang electronics nya so onti lang din ang masisira. Parts are easy to find and since simple lang sya any backyard mechanic can work on it. Good na sya for a practice car.

pawis steering nga pala yun EL, all manual. lol. bigla parang ayoko na.

    Thanks!

Much better choices ang late 90s to early 2000s na manual tranny Sentra or Lynx.

Preferably the Type-Z version. Even better if you can get the VTi variant.

IMO, since ka-price range lang din naman nung Honda Civic A/T e pick ka na lang ng Toyota Corolla GLi or Honda Civic Vti M/T, Medyo maselan kasi yung auto tranny lalo na yan 17 years old na (wear and tear) hindi pa sure kung religiously talaga pinapalitan yan ng ATF.

it's good na kakilala nyo pareho ang nagbebenta. somehow, alam nyo kung paano ginamit ng mga dating may ari.

if i were you, i'd get the Lancer EL. less electronic/automatic/computerized parts to worry about, the more fuel efficient of the two, abundant parts and pretty much unpretentious basic car. don't mind if it's pretty slow, remember that you'll be using it as a daily driven family car. it would make a good first car. once you and your wife become proficient drivers within 3 to 5 years upgrade to a new one and get rewarded by the automated/power features and modern creature comforts ng mga modelong auto.

    just my 2 cents.
